11 actors we’d love to see in James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi movie

The Star Wars franchise is finally gearing up to return to the big screen. At this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm unveiled not one but three new theatrical adventures that will bring the galaxy far, far away back to movie theaters around the world. However, these three films are not a trilogy that will follow the same group of characters. Instead, they are each standalone movies that will explore different areas and times of the film Star Wars universe.

This approach aims to revitalize the franchise through any kind of Star Wars fan something to look forward to. Dave Filoni will direct a movie that will serve as the culmination of his Mandoverse shows, such as The Mandalorian And Ahsoka. In another film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Daisy Ridley returns as Rey in a story set 15 years later. Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Perhaps the most interesting of these new films is the outing that will be directed by James Mangold. Like the director behind movies like Logan, Walk the line, Ford vs Ferrari, and the forthcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate, Mangold has become known as one of the best directors alive today. Have him on board a Star Wars film is exciting in its own right, but what adds to the anticipation is the setting the film will explore. Mangold’s movie is set in the new era titled “Dawn of the Jedi,” about 25,000 years before any Star Wars stories we’ve seen on screen so far.

Mangold has described the film as a biblical epic inspired by people like Ben Hur And The 10 commandments. Given this approach and the time between the setting of this film and the rest of the Star Wars franchise, Mangold will be free to essentially tell any story he wants. The Star Wars series is already one of the biggest in the modern entertainment era, but there are still plenty of actors we’d love to see join the franchise. Here are 11 actors we’d love to see work with Mangold on his new “Dawn of the Jedi” movie.

11 Chiwetel Ejiofor

Walt Disney Studios movies

Chiwetel Ejiofor is no stranger to making blockbusters. He previously appeared in several big movies for Disney, such as Doctor Strange2019 The lionking, And Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. However, none of these movies really allowed Ejiofor to fully showcase his acting skills. As he has proven in movies like Children of men And 12 years slaveEjiofor is a truly phenomenal artist.

Still, he didn’t get the chance to really star in a major blockbuster. This could be that opportunity. Mangold has proven on multiple occasions his ability to get the best out of the actors he works with, seeing him team up with Ejiofor on Star Wars would be a great recipe for success. Ejiofor has previously shown he can be a menacing adversary, but we’d love to see him in any role here, hero or villain.

10 Hong Chau

Although she has been working in film and television for a few decades, Hong Chau has recently received the mainstream attention it deserves. Last year, she made a big impression on the public through her work in both The menu And The whale, for the latter for which she received an Oscar nomination. Chau’s career is on a rampage right now and we’d love to see her take advantage of that with a movie like this.

Many Oscar nominees have tried unsuccessfully over the years to get straight into making blockbusters, but with a talent like Mangold piloting this ship, Chau would be in good hands. She played supporting roles The menu And The whalebut we’d love to see what she could do as a lead in a big movie like this.

9 Alexander Skarsgard

HBO

Alexander Skarsgard is an actor who has been just below the threshold of mainstream popularity for some time now, casting him in a Star Wars movie like this could finally give him the push he needs to become a household name. He has a great history of working in both indie and blockbuster movies and will give it his all for any role he gets. He’s done a particularly good job lately as the lead in Robert Eggers’ The Norman and in the supporting role of Lukas Matsson in seasons three and four of Succession. Before that, he starred in big blockbusters like the one from 2016 The Legend of Tarzan and that of 2021 Godzilla against Kong.

His father, Stellan Skarsgård, is already doing a phenomenal job portraying Luthen Rael in the Star Wars Disney+ series Andor. Bringing Alexander on board a project like this would set Mangold on his own Star Wars film to have an element of prestige and esteem.

8 Zoe Saldana

Paramount Pictures

As the fourth highest-grossing actor of all time, Zoe Saldana is pretty well set career-wise. She has appeared in a number of major franchises ranging from Star Trek to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and avatar. She has proven more than once that she is an incredible action star and an excellent dramatic actor in whatever she does whether it has a budget of $20 million or $300 million.

Star Wars is one of the few major franchises she hasn’t been involved in at this point, which is surprising considering she’s a perfect fit for the tone of the series. She can handle comedy, drama and action all with equal precision, and she’s infinitely charismatic to match. Given the Guardians of the Universe movies are coming to an end Full. 3 this summer she has a little more time to commit to a big franchise like Star Wars.

7 Steven Yun

He has since made waves with his breakout performance as Glenn The living Dead, Steven Yun has built up quite a resume. Not only has he done excellent voice work in projects like The Legend of Korra And Invinciblebut he’s also delivered one great performance after another in movies like Okay, Burning, Minari And No.

His career also just keeps growing as he stars opposite Robert Pattinson in director Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi epic. Mickey 17, and he will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a major role in the Lightning strikes movie. Yeun grows into a bigger star every year and he would be a perfect fit for Mangold Star Wars movie.

6 Sigourney Weaver

Netflix

Sigourney Weaver is essentially Hollywood blockbuster royalty at this point. After making a name for herself in franchises like Alien And Ghostbusters, Weaver has increasingly become a legend. She is one of only a dozen performers to be nominated for multiple acting Oscars in the same year, and she has contributed to many of the industry’s biggest franchises, namely avatar. She’s a sci-fi movie icon, and it’s honestly kind of surprising that she’s not in one Star Wars still filming.

We’d love to see her play a key role in Mangold’s movie, perhaps as part of the galaxy’s early government or as a religious leader familiar with the Force.

5 Dave Bautista

Warner Bros. Pictures

After a hugely successful run with the WWE, Dave Bautista is one of the few professional wrestlers who has become arguably more successful in the film industry. After his breakout role as Drax in Guardians of the UniverseBautista has continued to showcase his acting chops in movies like Ghost, Blade runner 2049, Dune, Army of the dead, Glass onion and, most recently, Knock on the hut.

Bautista has proven his ability to deliver outstanding performances in both lead and supporting roles, and we’d love to see him get the chance to continue his hot streak with a role in Mangold’s Star Wars movie. Bautista has already worked with some great directors and he could really thrive in a partnership with Mangold.

4 Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in Doctor Strange
Walt Disney Studios movies

Tilda Swinton is the kind of artist that can always be relied upon. She has taken on an array of roles ranging from the White Witch to The Chronicles of Narnia in the lead in George Miller’s Three thousand years of desire, the Ancient One in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and numerous parts in Wes Anderson films. She has an incredibly clear presence as an actor and she can do just about anything the script would ask of her.

Bringing Swinton aboard Mangold’s Star Wars film would give the project real weight in the acting department. She could essentially take on any type of character in the movie, but it could be particularly interesting to see her in some kind of antagonistic role.

3 Regé-Jean Page

Rege-Jean Page in Bridgerton
Netflix

Regé-Jean Page is currently a star on the rise in Hollywood and a role in Mangold’s Star Wars film could give him the extra momentum he needs to really hit the scene. He first made a big impression on audiences through his work in the first season of Bridgerton in 2020. Since then he has appeared in a few things but he made the biggest impact with his supporting role in Dungeons & Dragons: honor among thieves.

He’s infinitely charismatic and likable, and he’s the sort of performer who’s going to be snatched up by a major franchise sooner or later. He would be an excellent choice for a starring role in Star Wars.

2 Daniela Melchior

Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad
Warner Bros. Pictures

After her breakout role in The suicide squadit’s a surprise that Daniela Melchior hasn’t gotten any work yet. She was the core of that story, giving one of the best performances in a movie with an amazingly stacked cast. She plays a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and will appear soon Fast X too, but it still feels like Melchior’s talents are kind of wasted.

She has shown herself to be an incredible talent who deserves to have more of a presence in the mainstream film industry. With a central role in Mangold’s Star Wars movie, Melchior might prove she’s not an actor to be doubted. We’d love to see her rise in a movie like this.

1 Hiroyuki Sanada

Hiroyuki Sanada in Bullet Train
Release Sony Pictures

Finally, Hiroyuki Sanada is a legend in the action and martial arts movie space, yet he is consistently underused in American movies. He famously appeared in one series in Avengers: endgame before they were unceremoniously killed. Fortunately, he gets more and more work every year. He has recently appeared in, among others John Wick: Chapter 4, Bullet train, Mortal Kombat, And Army of the Dead.

Moreover, he and Mangold have also already teamed up since Sanada played the villain in 2013’s The wolverine, which Mangold directed. He is known for his work in martial arts and he could lend real talent to the cast of this film.
