Ke Huy Quan returns emotionally to The Goonies after 36 years

Everything Everywhere All At Once star Ke Huy Quan has never returned to the Warner Bros. soundstage where The Goonies were recorded… until now.

The Goonies remains one of the best-loved films of the 80s and is a veritable treasure trove of Easter eggs for fans of Steven Spielberg. Ke Huy Quan played Richard “Data” Wang in the film, a kid with a penchant for making gadgets that sometimes don’t work quite as expected—think a kid version of Billy Peltzer’s dad in Gremlins, as well as a taste of one of the many references to other Spielberg films. In the 36 years that followed The Goonies was released, Quan never returned to where he shot the film, but that all changed when he visited the Warner Bros. soundstage where part of The Goonies was filmed, and got a little emotional about the moment.

Post on his InstagramQuan shared photos of himself standing by a list of the feature films and TV shows shot on Stage 16 over the years, focusing on The Goonies among the many projects created on the plot. Along with the images, Quan noted:

“First time back to Warner Brothers’ stage 16 in 36 years. At this stage, we filmed the pirate ship scene in The Goonies. I got a little emotional when all my wonderful memories of my Goonies gang came back. Fun fact: The floor of this stage opens up and goes down 40 ft.”

Ke Huy Quan recently reunited with Harrison Ford

A return to the set of The Goonies isn’t the only reunion Ke Huy Quan was part of recently, as the Everything everywhere at once star previously shared images of himself with his Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom opponent Harrison Ford. The pair met at Disney’s D23 Expo, where Ford appeared as part of the Indiana Jones 5 panel, and Quan, who played Short Round in the second Indiana Jones movie, also happened to be in attendance.

The actor has said he would have said “absolutely” yes to reprising his role as an adult version of Short Round, but with Indiana Jones 5 already wrapped up and in post-production with no Quan involved, it seems unlikely that will happen. will happen. At a time when streaming spin-off shows is king, who’s to say Disney couldn’t get something out of the bag with a Short Round-focused spin-off. For now, Quan is just happy to be back in Hollywood after many years of absence. He recently said:

“I didn’t act when I was little. I happened to be in the right place at the right time when Spielberg and Lucas were looking for an Asian kid to be Indy’s sidekick. And I just fell in love with it because it was a of the best professions in the world. I feel very blessed and grateful to be able to do this again after 2 decades of absence.”
