Ayushmann Kurrana’s Doctor G shows a good trend at the box office in India. Early estimates say the film showed a 25 to 30 percent jump on Saturday as the film appears to have gathered in the range of €4.75 to Rs 5.15 crores. This brings Doctor G’s two-day total to Rs. 8.50 crore plus.
There will be another jump of about 15 percent on Sunday and Dr G is aiming for a weekend total of just under Rs. 15 million. This is a decent result for a movie that was released without aggressive marketing or pre-release buzz. To note, it was also devoid of any hit music and the only thing that worked for the movie is the theatrical trailer.
The jump has been made in the national multiplex chains, although even mass bands have managed to stay at the same level as Friday. Now it’s up to the film to show some sort of grab on Monday and capture a decent trend on it to hit the Rs. 30 to 35 crore in the long run until the two big Diwali releases arrive.
Doctor G is trending better than all Ayushmann Khurrana releases in the pandemic times and the hope is that the actor will gain momentum from this and only get stronger. The positive word of mouth and jump on Day 2 have given the industry a glimmer of hope to support good mid-budget concept films.
