The first photos of the web series The crown season 5 is here and the royal family is now in 90s Britain. Based on historical events, the Netflix series dramatizes the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the political and personal events that shaped her reign. With the new decade approaching, the royal family may face their biggest challenge yet; while the public openly questions their role in 1990s Britain.
The Crown First Look: Imelda Staunton leads Netflix series as Queen Elizabeth II in Season 5; Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West play Princes Diana and Prince Charles
This turbulent decade for the royal family has been well documented and interpreted by journalists, biographers and historians. As Elizabeth Debicki, who takes on the role of Princess Diana, explains: “That’s the amazing thing about these people playing right now, because in The Crown’s journey, so far out of all seasons, this is the most visual content we have from the royal family. In the ’90s everything started being filmed and it was also the birth of the 24-hour news cycle, so there’s just this incredible amount of content that we have access to.”

Since this is the final cast change, Dominic West (Prince Charles) explains, “I think people understand because the cast has changed every two seasons, this isn’t an imitation,” he says. “This is evoking a character.”
While Imelda Staunton (Queen Elizabeth II) hopes she, like her character, has done her duty to the public: “What was nice, and I hope I don’t prove them wrong, is people saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to seeing her as the queen so let’s hope it works for them because i did it i can’t help it now!”
The crown Season 5 will be available on Netflix from November 9, 2022.
