BTS successfully organized the World Expo 2030 Busan Korea concert called BTS “Yet To Come” in Busan. Through a personal concert, a personal live broadcast, an online live stream and a TV broadcast, the concert was viewed from 229 countries/regions. As ambassadors for World Expo 2030 Busan, Korea, BTS staged the grand show to introduce Busan and Korean culture to a global audience in an effort to increase interest in Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030.
BTS’ concert saw 50,000 people in attendance in Busan and garnered 49 million viewers during livestream; group performs ‘RUN BTS’ for the first time
The personal concert at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium was attended by about 50,000 people. The estimated number of viewers at the live personal broadcast in Busan Port reached about 10,000. While an estimated 2,000 people watched the Live Play in Haeundae, the area was otherwise crowded as it was open to the public. The online livestream via Weverse alone generated about 49 million views. The TV broadcast on Korean JTBC reached an exceptionally high rating of 3.3%.
BTS opened the Busan concert with their slick track ‘Mic Drop’. The septet boasted their top choreography with ‘run BTS’ For the first time. For the unit performances, Jin, Jimin, V and Jung Kook performed ’00:00 (zero hour)‘ and ‘Butterfly’ while RM, SUGA and j-hope staged’UGH!’ and ‘BTS Cypher PT.3: KILLER’, which raises the mood throughout the stadium. The septet continued the show with well-known hit songs like “Dynamite’‘Butter’‘Burn up (FIRE)‘, ‘IDOL’and ‘spring day’. BTS played a total of 19 songs, all arranged for a live band. The set list consisted of songs that best represent the band and everyone – except ARMY – can easily sing along.
The concert was filled with symbolic elements representing Busan and Korean culture. BTS said: “We hope our concert tonight will help promote Busan and support the city’s bid to host World Expo 2030 in Busan.” They later added: “As the title ‘BTS ‘Yet To Come’ in BUSAN’ suggests, we have no doubt that tonight was the best moment for everyone here and for the seven of us. With our hopes of spending another wonderful moment together, we present you our last song of the evening.” BTS closed the show with “Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)”, suggesting a brighter future for everyone.
The concert provided a rich experience to many Busan residents and visitors through the various activations, further emphasizing Busan’s unique charms. ‘2022 BTS EXHIBITION: Proof’ in both Seoul (September 28) and Busan (October 5), featuring interactive content, attracted approximately 20,000 visitors on October 15, and more than two-thirds of the visitors to the Busan site were foreigners. The pop-up stores for the official concert merchandise in Seoul and Busan attracted 16,000 visitors, 10,000 of whom visited the Busan site. The theme package ‘Yet To Come’ also attracted a large number of people, with two thirds of the total reservations being made by foreigners. Not to mention the pre-gathering event was packed with hundreds of people celebrating and enjoying the pre-concert excitement. As people wanted to continue their enthusiasm for the concert through various BTS-themed multimedia shows, nearly 4,000 tickets for BTS ‘Yet To Come’ in Busan The City – After Party were sold out.
Social media also proved the heat with more than 9.3 million hashtag counts of keywords related to the concert and city on Twitter, and keywords related to World Expo 2030 Busan recorded more than 200,000 counts. Proof of the festive atmosphere in Busan and the excitement to World Expo 2030 Busan, the number of references was 45 times greater than last year’s.
Hoping to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan, the city celebrated the Busan show extensively with a drone show on Gwangalli Beach. In addition, major landmarks such as Busan Metropolitan City Hall, Gwangan Bridge, etc. will remain lit in purple until October 17, reenacting ‘BORAHAE BUSAN’.
The host country of World Expo 2030 is chosen by the BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) member states. If Busan succeeds in its bid, World Expo 2030 Busan, Korea will be held in Busan North Port Area from May 1 to October 31, 2030, with the theme: “Transforming our world, navigating to a better future.”
