Filmmaker Karan Johar is back on the coffee bench! Season 7 of Coffee With Karan airs Thursdays on Disney+ Hotstar with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani co-stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The two stars talked about how their friendship came about during Gully Boy, their married life with their respective partners, and what it’s been like during the pandemic for the past two years. They also played the fun rounds of Koffee Bingo, Rapid Fire and fun buzzer rounds.
Koffee With Karan 7: Alia Bhatt shares how Ranbir Kapoor proposed to her in Maasai Mara: ‘He blew my mind away’
During the conversation, Alia Bhatt told how Ranbir Kapoor had proposed to her and that even Ranveer Singh and Karan Johar were left in tears. “I was single after a very long time and so was Ranbir. Everyone around me, my sister and even my friends, everyone was like you were going to get all together and I was like, ‘okay’. Half wishing, not full of wishes, but I’m like ‘let’s see’. I didn’t want to put too much effort into it. It should happen naturally. And it really just happened naturally,” she said.
Alia Bhatt recalled that she and Ranbir traveled to Tel Aviv for the Brahmastra workshop and she was very excited to know they would be sitting next to each other. “We were both sitting together, so I remember him coming in and having to sit next to me. I was very excited and I looked this way as I waited for him to sit next to me,” she said. But there was a malfunction with his seat, so there was a chance he might sit somewhere else. Talking about that moment, Bhatt said, “I was like, ‘Why is my dream shattered?’ But later his seat was secured, so he sat back.” “That vibe just started there and of course, the rest is history,” she added.
She revealed how Ranbir Kapoor proposed to her. She said: “In terms of Ranbir and his planning, he blew me away completely because I wasn’t expecting it. We didn’t even talk about it. We talked about it for a very long time, but then there were so many pandemic delays, that we decided Don’t talk about it. We just go with the gut feeling. And that’s exactly what he did. He didn’t tell anyone. He just wore the ring and he did it in the most amazing place, Maasai Mara.”
“He had our guide planted to take the picture as well,” she recalls how Ranbir planned everything and also had someone to take pictures. The couple tied the knot in April 2022 and at the end of June they announced that they would soon have their first child.
