As James Bond fans are waiting to see who will be the next actor to take on the role in the inevitable 26th movie, doctor who star David tennant has talked about how he was once in the running for the role. The revelation came from Tennant in a recent episode of the… Acting for others Presents… podcast with the actor who claimed to have been narrated by a director friend of bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson thought he had a chance. Per the mirrorhere’s what Tennant had to say about the situation.
“I never believed I had [a chance] until I recently worked with a director who had worked with the Broccolis, who said, “Yeah, you were on the list then.” “I went, ‘What time?’ He went, “The last time.” I went, ‘What time? He went, ‘Last time.’ I assume he meant Daniel Craig because before that I would have been a kid. I think it was a long list and I don’t think I was ever near the top of it, but apparently I was.”
We can only imagine what it would have been like for Tennant to dress up as 007. For his part, the actor admits that it would have been a “game changer” if he had gotten that part, although it all worked out well enough with Tennant landing doctor who. That leaves Tennant in a place where he has nothing to complain about and feels “privileged” to be where he is in his career, even if playing Bond wasn’t meant to be.
“I think it’s a bit of a game changer. That level of celebrity. Bond is on another level. But there’s that bit [as the Doctor] where you lose your anonymity, sure.” go complain, it’s a very privileged place to be.”
Who will be the next James Bond?
There’s still no new information on who exactly will play James Bond after Daniel Craig quits the role with No time to die. There were recent rumors that producers were looking for a much younger actor to fill the role, but Michael G. Wilson has since dispelled that rumor. Here’s what he said about the situation at a Bond 60th anniversary event at the British Film Institute in London.
“We’ve tried in the past to look at younger people. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond is already a veteran. He has some experience. He’s someone who’s been through wars, so to speak. probably in the SAS or something. He’s not a high school kid you can bring in and start. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”
Until a new name is announced, which could be a while, fans will continue to speculate about who will be the person to get the job.
