Khuda Haafiz, which was released in 2020, surprised everyone, especially because it was such a departure from the archetypal Vidyut Jammwal action movie, which required him to hold back all his aces as a martial artist and go for a rough, realistic fighting form that, ironically, worked in his favor more than most of his hardcore action movies. Personally I think it’s the second best movie after the first command and kudos to the director Faruk Kabiro for having the guts to take the undefeated path and finish it off with reasonable success. The duo now returns along with the lead actress of the first film, Shivaleeka Oberoicforkhuda Haafiz Chapter 2 Agni Pariksha† Will they be able to build on the previous template with an extra impulse? Unfortunately not, but that doesn’t mean Khuda Haafiz 2 has no merit.

What is it about

After the events of Khuda Haafiz 1, Sameer (Vidyut Jammwal) adopts a little girl to help with wife Nargis’ (Shivaleeka Oberoi) depression, but is then plunged into the same nightmare after being kidnapped.

Watch the Khuda Haafiz 2 trailer below:

what’s hot

Shortly after the intermission, there’s a lengthy prison fight scene, which is not only generally the highlight of Khuda Haafiz 2, but also a blueprint of how to film a gritty, gritty, gory action scene. Sheeba Chaddha takes on a role that is far removed from anything she’s done so far and proves who hasn’t yet exploited her versatility. Jitan Harmeet Singh’s camera work is another highlight, while Vidyut Jammwal skillfully makes even some of the less imaginative action scenes look better than they should be.

What not

Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2 has a lot less action compared to Part 1, which is a problem because it’s one thing to tone things down and quite another prospect to sap your main star’s USP. Surprisingly, Shivaleeka Oberoi also has very little to do this time around and the rest of the cast, with the exception of Sheeba Chaddha, is out of order as in the first part, while Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Rajesh Talang are completely wasted. In addition, Vidyut’s character transition seems too far-fetched, as does the way he takes revenge. Finally, the representation of depression, how to deal with it and a scene with an animal is very problematic. In addition, the movie could have easily been shortened by at least half an hour and the background music needed to be much better.

BL verdict

Khuda Haafiz 2 isn’t old wine in a new bottle, but an old wine cellar in new barrels, made shiny by Vidyut Jammwal’s ability to make the most rudimentary action sequences look better than they deserve. However, a lengthy battle sequence in a prison is very well choreographed and is worth the price of admission alone. I’m going with 3 out of 5 stars.
