While thanking Dwayne Johnson for support, Brendan Fraser explained how he never actually met the actor while filming The Mummy Returns.
Brendan Fraser has received a lot of praise in recent weeks for his performance in The whale. Someone who has been a champion of Fraser is Dwayne Johnsonand Fraser says The Rock’s support of him is “really nice” while also remembering how he never met Johnson while filming The mummy returns.
While Fraser and Johnson’s careers have gone in very different directions since they “worked together” on The mummy returns, both actors are hot properties in Hollywood right now for very different movies. While Fraser is being tipped for a number of awards for his role in The whaleJohnson is tearing up the DCEU with Black Adam, which may not win over the critics right now, but is guaranteed to have a big box office impact. Because Johnson is on his promotion path for: Black Adamhe was not personally present at Variety’s New York Party Wednesday night, but when his name was brought to Fraser, the actor explained how they first met. Fraser said:
“I thought that was really nice of him. The first time I met him was at the reception after The Mummy Returns, and we hadn’t met in person before that, although we were fighting on screen. Every time I worked with him, he was just a piece of tape on a stick, so it was nice to go hey man, how are you? Finally we meet.”
How Did Batgirl’s Cancellation Affect Brendan Fraser’s Comeback?
While Brendan Fraser gets a lot of credit for his dramatic role in The whalehis funny villain role in the canceled DC movie batgirl is one that his fans will never see. The actor, who would play Firefly in the film, recently mentioned the decision to scrap batgirl as ‘tragic’. While it’s clear that he really enjoyed the experience of filming the movie, some of that fun seemed to be due to his co-star Leslie Grace, whom he garnered a lot of credit for. He said in an earlier interview:
“It’s tragic. It doesn’t inspire confidence in filmmakers and the studio. Leslie Grace was fantastic. She is a dynamo, just a perfect performer. Everything we shot was real and exciting and just the antithesis of doing a straight forward digital all green screen. They had fire trucks driving through Glasgow city center at 3am and had flamethrowers. It was a big budget movie, but one that was stripped down to the essentials.”
though losing batgirl was a blow to Fraser, it certainly didn’t cause him to lose his moment in Hollywood, which only seems to be continuing with a string of other films already in the works, such as Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. For now, though, Fraser is certainly enjoying his newfound success, which includes countless standing ovations for The whale as it has played at many festivals prior to its theatrical release in the US on December 9.
