Listen below:

The originals “Death on the Nile” and “Evil Under the Sun” inspired Johnson’s “Knives Out” thriller series. “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” from writer and director Rian Johnson is another thunderous take on the thriller series that surpasses its predecessor in almost every way. Daniel Craig takes over the role of Benoit Blanc, launching into the funniest performance seen this year. It’s impossible to explain what the movie is about without spoiling it, so we won’t. What we’re going to do is tell you that the SAG Award for Best Cast Ensemble is going to be a hot race with “Glass Onion” in the mix.

Johnson isn’t one of those filmmakers like Steven Spielberg who knew he wanted to make movies after seeing “Lawrence of Arabia.” Johnson’s earliest memory of watching a movie was “The Wizard of Oz” (1939) on TV, which he says “terrified” him. However, he remembers his first film experience, which was going with his father to see a reissue of George Lucas’ “Star Wars” (1977).

“It was just a cloud, and constantly surrounded by movies that enveloped my childhood,” he says.

But don’t expect Johnson to join the trend of filmmakers like Spielberg, Kenneth Branagh and Alfonso Cuaron, to make a film about his childhood. “It wouldn’t be as entertaining. It would be very boring.

For many, Johnson’s vision for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (2017) was one of the franchise’s most ambitious and inventive films. “The plan for me was always to do the second one and then step back,” he says of not directing the third installment.

Johnson is excited to jump straight into the upcoming “Knives Out” film, which will be the third installment in the franchise. When Netflix first announced the purchase of the rights, two more films were expected to arrive. When asked how many ‘Knives Out’ movies he has in him, Johnson said, “If every single one of them can really be what Agatha Christie did, if it’s not just in a totally new and a new cast, but also try something exciting, I’ll keep going as long as Daniel [Craig] and I’m having a good time. I will continue to make them as long as they let me.

Next up on Johnson’s role is his first-ever television series, “Poker Face.” Working with Emmy nominee Natasha Lyonne (“Russian Doll”), he calls it “old school, a throwback to weekday mystery shows like ‘Magnum PI’ and ‘Columbo’. It’s 10 episodes, and each is a completely different mystery, with different guest stars for each. We brought in some amazing actors to play killers and victims.

Netflix will release “Glass Onion” in theaters for an exclusive one-week preview window from November 23-29. It will be released on the streaming platform on December 23.
