HFPA Pushes Press Conference Pause for Golden Globe Awards Eligible Content

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will not hold press conferences for eligible ’80s contentthe Annual Golden Globe Awards, the organization’s president announced on Friday.

“The HFPA will not host any press conferences during the current awards cycle,” Helen Hoehne, president of the HFPA, said in a statement.

“Our commitment remains to recognize the best in film and television both in the US and abroad, and to bring the Golden Globes to a global television and broadcast audience. With the expansion of the voting body and the increase in eligible content this year, we are focused on nominations and making 80 a historic event to remember.”

Hoehne emphasizes that HFPA press conferences were never a requirement for Golden Globes consideration.

It’s still unclear how, or if, Hollywood will be involved, with a top publicist telling TheWrap that stars, studios and publicists are “carefully evaluating everything” before determining whether to welcome the Foreign Press Association. of Hollywood with open arms. But advertisers agree that the days of studios, streamers and networks pulling out all the stops to receive a Golden Globe nomination are long gone.

“No one is going back to solo specialty press conferences for the HFPA. I don’t know anyone who does that now,” said a senior publicist who asked to remain anonymous. “There’s been so much out there, and there’s been so much back and forth. The dust has lifted and is now beginning to settle. ‘OK, how is this road? Is it paved or is it still potholed?’”
