Matthew Perry credits Jennifer Aniston with helping him on his ‘friends’ drinking days – Deadline

Matthew Perry remembers one friends Costar who tried to help him with his drinking problem – Jennifer Aniston.

Speaking to ABC News journalist Diane Sawyer in a trailer promoting their Oct. 28 meeting, Perry recalls the time Aniston — who he calls “Jenny” — confronted him about his issue. She said Sawyer reminded Perry, “We know you drink.”

Perry confirmed the incident.

“Imagine what a scary moment that was,” he said. “She was the one who came forward the most, you know. I am really grateful to her for that.”

Perry has opened up about his struggles with addiction. The actor tells it all in a new book, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memorycoming out on November 1st.

said Perry persons earlier that he was in the early stages of alcoholism than friends started. This problem worsened in the years that followed, to the point where his colon ruptured four years ago from taking opioids. Perry was in a coma for two weeks, in the hospital for five weeks and wore a colostomy bag for nine months.

The clip shows Perry telling Sawyer that he also once took “55 Vicodin a day,” as well as methadone, Xanax, and a full liter of vodka.

“I should have been the toast of the town back then,” Perry said. Instead, “I was in a dark room, meeting nothing but drug dealers, and I was completely alone.”

Perry claims he’s sober now during the interview, but won’t reveal a timeline for this transformation.
