Dumbo director Tim Burton doesn’t want to direct a Marvel movie for Disney and says his time for the studio is likely to be over.
Tim Burton is someone who never has to look too far to find his next project, but it seems that one thing on his agenda is not to join the pantheon of directors to have worked on a Marvel movie. In fact, the iconic director of movies like Beetlejuice, Batman and the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday doesn’t believe he will work on another Disney project after realizing he looked very much like the titular pachyderm in his last Disney project, dumbo. While there are many directors, writers and stars queuing up to join Disney in one way or another, Burton is candid about how working for the House of Mouse started to feel like being part of a “terrible big circus” that he “needed to escape” from. In an interview with deadline, Burton said:
“[Disney’s] become very homogenized, very consolidated. There is less room for different kinds of things. I can only deal with one universe, I can’t deal with a multi-universe… My history is that I started there. I was hired and fired there several times during my career. The Thing About Dumbo [2019]That’s why I think my days with Disney are over, I realized I was Dumbo, I was working in this horrible big circus and I had to escape. That film is quite autobiographical on a certain level.”
Tim Burton’s history at Disney dates back to his early days in the industry as an animator and artist, and as he branched out to become one of the greatest directors, with an instantly recognizable style, his Disney journey now seems completely over. to be after his experience working on dumbo.

Tim Burton may seem to have taken a day off to work with Disney, but many of his fans won’t be too disappointed with that, as there are certain projects they’d rather see Burton get involved in, other than being in the world of the Marvel Cinematic jumps. Burton mentioned the possibility of the return of the world’s only bio-exorcist in the same interview, saying:
“Nothing is excluded. I only know if I’m making a movie if I’m actually filming on set. I’m trying to get back to the core of everything. It comes from a seed and then it grows, rather than from these statements. I’m working on ideas and things, but it’s all very early. We decide how it goes. How is that for a no answer?”
In recent years, many of the stars of beetle juice, including Michael Keaton, have commented positively on the possible return to comedic horror for more supernatural fun, but will it ever really happen? With Keaton returning to his old Batman role and nostalgic legacy sequels almost guaranteed to be box office gold, there’s probably never been a better time for Burton to revisit the iconic world.
