Jagat Singh Solanki described him as the ‘driving force behind the film’ and spoke of the dedication, hard work and time his producer put into it. “Sagar is the producer of the film and from a non-cinematic background he joined me in this boat. We started this project with the faith and conviction that we will see it through to the end. In the beginning, as anyone would have, we were also not very clear about the difficult and rough roads ahead, where to walk, the kind of hurdles that will come before us etc. But one thing me and Sagar both have in common was that we will never give up no matter what. We will fight until the final product hits the market and it reaches the right audience and believe me, we will go to any heights to do that. And Sagar is such a stubborn guy. He never let me down and he never let me give up. He was the driving force. Although of course he did the finances and the administration, but he also treated me. I had so many responsibilities – I took care of the creative part, writing the film, the screenplay, the dialogues, it’s my directorial debut and I even starred in the film as one of the lead actors. But because Sagar was standing next to me, he didn’t let me fall off. Maybe I would have fallen somewhere if it hadn’t been for him.”

In our previous interview with Jagat Singh, the director-actor confessed that: Krispy Rishtey started as a 30-minute short film that grew into a 17-song musical. Despite the way it was expanding, the actor insisted that Sagar never deviated from his promise and in fact he was quite encouraging and excited about the way the project was turning out. “When I told him we added another song and then got two more songs, he was always happy and gave me permission. Numbers kept adding according to the scenario required, but he was always excited and full of energy. He kept pushing me and had that confidence in me. We went in search of the musicians and made arrangements for whatever was needed. Luckily by the time we were ready to record great songs with amazing lyrical power and great music made by 6 different very talented music directors and to top it all off the background music is superbly done which beats with every breath the movie as the screen advances. So in the end 17 refreshing songs that blended flawlessly into the storyline and then the singers and everything started to fall into place, once we got started.

“Generally speaking, producers, co-producers, financiers first ask questions like how are you going to sell the film, how do they get the money back etc. But Sagar has this confidence in me and the project. It was clear to both of us that it will not be easy to get stars in our first film, but; we had tremendous confidence in the content we were creating, even if we don’t get any, we will still create gravity with good actors, proper execution and the magic of great music and background music doing it for us,” he added to.

Initially, Jagat and Sagar started with the idea of releasing the film in theaters, but when COVID hit, they reworked their strategy. Interestingly enough, they found a lot of potential in OTT for their musical. Speaking about it, he said: “After COVID and the fluctuating number of cases, people are still refusing to come to the theaters. Just like in the first wave, we thought it would all pass, then the second wave came.” and then the third and by then we’ve decided we don’t mind going for an OTT once the movie is done.”

By now we know that the movie features some melodic songs sung by some popular singers like Mohit Chauhan, Jubin Nautiyal, Papon, Shreya Goshal, Richa Sharma, Altamush Faridi, Sabri Brothers, Nakkash Aziz, Vikrant and Neha Karode among others. Yet another song in this film is sung by KK. “I had this song written and composed especially for KK. When KK said yes to the song, it was arguably one of the happiest moments of my life. When I met him in the studio, he was listening to the beginning of the song. He heard it and then began to sing. Guess what? We had envisioned the song going to a certain level but where KK took it it was beyond our imagination as it had ‘the KK magic’ We were all blown away by that magic, me, the composer-Vijay Verma, the arranger-Anamik Chauhan, the mix master-man-Rupjit and the lyricist-Rajesh Manthan in the studio were all drawn into that gravity. Look, I’m a spiritual person and believe me, I really felt the presence of God there in the studio when he sang”khwaab jeete† That is the power and dynamism of the legendary singer KK. The kind of preparation that went into, the choreography I had in my head, I was crystal clear which shot will come on which beats. When I asked him to re-sing the last line by stretching it a bit, according to the images in my mind, he gladly did. He made me feel so comfortable, showed so much confidence and faith in me. I promised him that he will be proud to see the song in the movie. And then… he just left. And now he’s not there to see the movie, to tell me what he thought of the song. All I have left are those precious behind-the-scenes videos that capture those moments. Perhaps one day we would certainly release them all. As for the movie, I’m sure it will bless us wherever it is.”

Continuing to talk about the film, Jagat also touched on the unique titles Krispy Rishtey† †Krispy Rishtey is all about the different flavors of relationships – like the sweetness of love, the sourness of a breakup, the bitterness of a divorce, and the temptations of the reunions. Our film examines the relationship of a man and a woman, and then there is a parallel trail of a complicated relationship between the man and his girlfriend. Adding to the twist in the story comes another one that turns the whole story on its head. So with each flavor, we convey a different side of a relationship,” he concluded.

With post-production now complete, production house Wooing Whistles is currently exploring exciting options on OTT for Krispy Rishtey† Jagat elaborated on the release date, adding: “There are three to four major players in the market that everyone wants to go to. The release date will be determined once we close the deal with one of them. And once it’s acquired, the process of publicity etc starts from then on. Ultimately what me and Sagar do is always in the interest of the film, it has to be a mutual understanding between our production house and the person or platform we choose to release it. ”
