I wanted to celebrate Diwali with my parents in Delhi, but I have a dog Simba here that I adopted and can’t leave him here alone. So I will be here in Mumbai and my parents can’t come either because my mother recently had heart surgery. On October 21 I will throw a party for my loved ones and the people I have worked with. So it’s something I look forward to after so many years. Diwali is very auspicious for me. I read the Katha, did the Lakshmi puja, and worshiped with my family in the temple. Diwali is an occasion of hope and welcoming good times. This is when the party begins and happiness is welcomed. This time we are pandemic free so I’m glad we can meet the people and hug them without wearing the mask and that’s the feeling of closeness and watching their smile without the mask. I missed all this. My fondest memories are eating a lot of sweets and the freedom to do everything and meet our relatives. That was the time when we all celebrated and joked together. I miss my daddy and daddy the most

Diwali plans have always stayed the same since childhood. On Diwali night we do Lakshmi Puja and Bengalis do Kali Puja at 12 midnight. We do chauda (14) diya the eve of Diwali where we invite Goddess Lakshmi to come into our house and visit us and bless us. We make sweets, go to Pandals to receive blessings and we do meditation so that we reach the highest vibration at that point and ask the universe to bless us with much abundance and opportunity. I am going to be in Bombay this Diwali.

“We don’t have anything important on the list. We will meet our family in Mumbai, light diyas at home, do puja, eat sweets and forget about our diet. I’m guessing it won’t be a working Diwali. And I think spending time with family is a celebration in today’s time. We also buy new clothes and in the evening we do Lakshmi puja and keep one of our possessions that we use every day such as our wallet, book, laptop or phone at her feet and light diyas at home. So my childhood memories are great in Chandigarh where we have a huge house. We decorate it with lights. We used to get tired of lighting all the diyas at home in Chandigarh, it was that big. So that was a great feeling. My sister Parul and I always wore the same dresses, the same clothes, the same color, always the same fabric.”

I am in Mumbai on Diwali and this year’s celebration is definitely different and everyone will be very happy and without tension. The party will be as before. I am very much looking forward to diwali. The meaning of Diwali is that it is very important and great. It’s something that signifies our tradition, our history and it’s my most favorite festival. I am always excited about Diwali. We perform Puja in our house. Puja from Maha Lakshmi and we use some eco Fire crackers. We lit many Diyas and decorated the whole house. It is awesome. My childhood memory regarding Diwali is not great but very sad because we were not very strong financially. I remember that during Diwali I had no fireworks to enjoy and my neighbors enjoyed them and I was very sad. So that night I will never forget. But now I am really enjoying and having a great time and God made it right and all the sadness, negativity, sadness that had to do with Diwali from my childhood is now gone and I am the happiest man on Diwali.
