Revealed: Anil Thadani adopts Pushpa model for Kantara’s Hindi version; refuses to increase ticket prices despite requests from exhibitors : Bollywood News

The South industry has come up with another surprise in the form of: Kantara. The original version is the second biggest hit of Kannada cinema. The Hindi version came out two weeks late and although it started slowly, it is unstoppable. In week 1, it collected Rs. 15 crores and looks like it will collect more in the second week despite competition from biggies like Ram Setuc and thank God from Tuesday 25 October.

Revealed: Anil Thadani takes over the Pushpa model for Kantara’s Hindi version; refuses to increase ticket prices despite requests from exhibitors

Bollywood Hungama huhdetermined that a lower pricing strategy by AA Films, the distributors of Kantara‘s Hindi version, is strongly in its favour.

A source told Bollywood Hungama“The prices of Kantara were lower than normal in the first weekend. As of Monday, Anil Thadani of AA Films asked cinemas to sell tickets for Rs. 112.”

The source continued: “The Hindi version of Kantara had collected Rs. 1.27 crores on Day 1. On Day 4, Monday, it collected more – Rs. 1.75 crores. This made it clear that the Kantara will have a long and strong run. The exhibitors therefore asked Anil Thadani to increase ticket prices from Tuesday to take advantage of the demand.”

The source then said: “Anil Thadani, however, declined the request. He wanted prices to be Rs. 112 for the whole week as he knew it would attract more visitors. The strategy worked as Kantara‘s Hindi version collected more than Friday in the weekdays.”

The source also stated “AA Films had used the same idea before” pushpa also. Even then, the dividend had been paid. Many viewers chose it instead of Spider-Man: No Way Home and ’83as the latter’s ticket prices were higher.”

Finally, the source cheered: “Once Ram Setuc and thank God releases, the rates of Kantara will be slightly higher. But it will be a little less than the Diwali releases. From Tuesday 25 October, the number of performances will be significantly reduced. Yet pre-bookings have been very strong. The exhibitors are ready to expand their shows if the new releases do not perform as expected.”

Bollywood Hungama had reported a few days ago that Anil Thadani, who also distributes, thank Godhad informed exhibitors to price the tickets for his film 20% lower than those of RAM setu.

An industry expert commented: “The success of National Film Day had led many producers and distributors to lower the prices of their films. In some cases, the move failed. But with Kantara, it worked. It will be some time before the industry realizes when the discounted ticket fares will work and when not.”
