If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed to get the attention of social media, it’s an unexpected appearance from Kevin Bacon. After much rumor about the ever-popular actor’s MCU debut as part of the Holiday special Guardians of the GalaxyThe release of the first trailer for next month’s Disney+ special presentation from Marvel Studios took the internet by storm by revealing that part of the plot revolves around Drax and Mantis trying to kidnap Kevin Bacon, played by… well, Kevin Bacon.
The Holiday special Guardians of the Galaxy arrives on Disney+ on November 25, and until now little was known about the plot of the one-shot bridge to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which will hit theaters next summer. With the arrival of the first trailer for the Marvel Special Presentation, we now know that there will be plenty of Christmas cheer about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s festive offerings, as well as a whole load of Kevin Bacon action.
While many thought that Bacon would join the MCU as a new character, it looks like he’ll just play a fictional version of himself and be involved in a kidnapping scheme as Mantis (Pom Klemtieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) steal the beloved star away to ensure Star Lord (Chris Pratt) doesn’t have the Christmas blues while continuing to focus on the loss of Gamora during Avengers: Infinity War. This, of course, plays into a running gag from the Guardians movies in which Star named Lord Bacon as “the greatest hero on Earth.” You can watch the trailer below.
Kevin Bacon in the MCU has caught Twitter’s attention
Kevin Bacon’s arrival in anything is usually enough to see the actor trending on Twitter, and the Holiday Special for Guardians trailer has done just that. While there are a handful of people who somehow don’t seem to care about the special presentation, many of those who did had enough to shout about after Bacon’s recording was officially announced. Check out some of the comments below.
Kevin Bacon has been a vocal fan of his constant name references in the MCU. While Bacon previously appeared in the Marvel movie X-Men: First Class as villain Sebastian Shaw, and has been referenced many times in the MCU, including during a footloose conversation between Iron Man, Spider-Man and the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity Warto be Holiday special Guardians of the Galaxy appearance is his first time in the MCU. Previously, Bacon said of the franchise’s frequent use of his name:
“When I saw Guardians of the Galaxy, I went to watch without knowing I was being talked about. It was an afternoon in New York, I was on 67th Street and went alone, like I often do. I was like, ‘ Holy shit. They’re talking about me. Do you understand this?'”
With only one month left until the Holiday special Guardians of the Galaxy arrives on Disney+, Guardians and Kevin Bacon fans will only have a short time to wait to see him show off his stuff as part of the MCU. Hopefully Bacon’s appearance can also finally deliver the 2020 tweet in which Chris Pratt had to turn down a dance against an actor after admitting we were going to lose. Maybe we’ll get to see some footloose movies sneaking in there somewhere when the special comes out on November 25.
