Ronnie Chiang and Chloe Bennett have joined the cast of Hulu’s “Interior Chinatown” from 20th Television. In the series Jimmy O. Yang is from producer and executive producer Charles Yu, who wrote the award-winning book based on it, and pilot/EP Taika Waititi.
“Interior Chinatown” follows Willis Wu (Yang), a background character trapped in a police process trying to find his way into the larger story. His journey uncovers the secrets of the strange world he lives in, as well as the burial history of his family. While waiting tables and dreaming about a world beyond Chinatown, he unwittingly witnesses a crime, uncovers a criminal conspiracy in the city and stabs a key figure in the image. .
Chiang (“Crazy Rich Asians”) stars as Willis’ best friend Fatty Choi. According to his character description, his passions include video games and malted drinks. Unlike Willis, Fatty is more comfortable with her and is content with her life working in restaurants, drinking, hanging out, and being the sidekick in the story.
Bennett (“Agents of SHIELD”) stars as Detective Lana Lee, a new lead making her first appearance in the show-within-a-show “Black and White”. Lana brings a new energy to the series’ credible but overworked premise. Except for potential and an air of mystery, she represents everything Willis has dreamed of: success, a potential love interest and a bigger role in the story, and the two form an unlikely partnership. Described as “self-aware, hypnotic and enigmatic”, the character can move between worlds with ease, but that ability comes with a complex reality.
