November kicks off with a bang as the holiday season kicks off in full swing. HBO Max has a new catalog of movies this month, perfect for a cozy movie night at home. With old classics ready for you to watch, entire franchises you can binge, and even a few new Christmas additions, there’s plenty here waiting for you to enjoy.
This month also seems to be popular for new releases as HBO Max introduces several new documentaries, some direct-to-video movies streaming here for the first time, and even a few original movies. Keep an eye out for these releases throughout the month, because there’s definitely something you don’t want to miss.
Star Trek Movies (Nov 1)
One of the greatest sci-fi franchises of all time, Star Trek has several iterations in both movies and TV. HBO Max brings 11 of the Star Trek movies to the service – the six from the original film series and the four in the Next Generation series. Follow the various stories surrounding the Enterprise, a starship that explores many strange new worlds and all that the cosmos contains, both good and bad. With variations in the crew members and storylines in both series, there are many stories to tell about this ship, and HBO Max may have the best of them.
Christmas Holiday National Lampoon (Nov 1)
Originally a short story published by National Lampoon, National Lampoon’s Christmas Holiday is just one of many movies in this series. This classic holiday movie has made its way into a lot of pop culture, so it’s no surprise that HBO Max got their hands on it for the holidays.
During Christmas, enjoy the misadventures of the Griswold family, led by Chevy Chase in its inimitable prime. They suffer through many accidents and embarrassing moments, sometimes even that seem almost impossible in real life. However, when they find out that all their relatives want to visit for the holidays, their lives get even crazier with a house full of people who keep getting in each other’s way.
Se7en (Nov 1)
Director David Fincher’s neo-noir crime film Se7en tells the story of two detectives who work together to track down a serial killer whose motives reflect the seven deadly sins. The first two murders, gluttony and greed, take place before Somerset and Mills are put on the case, but clues to the scene of the murders lead them to the third victim, who represents Sloth, before he dies. He is in critical condition and unable to answer any of their questions, but they do find photographic evidence at the third crime scene showing that these crimes were planned long in advance. Knowing that there are other murders before the sins are completed, Somerset and Mills go to great lengths to catch him and save his other victims.
Harry Potter Movies (Nov 1)
After a brief disappearance from the service, all eight Harry Potter movies are returning to HBO Max at a great time, as these movies always seemed best suited during the holiday season. Relive the franchise and follow Harry’s story through the joys and dangers of the wizarding world.
During his high school years at Hogwarts, life is never normal as he learns to master and use his magic properly, dealing with a new threat every year as dark forces that once shrank the wizarding world in fear begin to fade away. . regain their power as they look for a chance to return. Fortunately, Harry has plenty of friends willing to help him even in the toughest, most dangerous situations.
Say Hey, Willie Mays! (Nov 8)
Say Hey, Willie Mays! is a documentary about the life of Major League Baseball icon Willie Mays. Featuring exclusive interviews from Mays himself and some of his family, the sports documentary details Mays’ life on and off the field during this ever-changing time in American history, both on and off the field. As a prominent figure in baseball, as well as the American Dream, there is much to learn about his life, especially from his own perspective and the perspective of those closest to him. If you like history or baseball, Say Hey, Willie Mays! becomes a surefire home run.
Master of Light (November 16)
The documentary master of light explores the story of George Anthony Morton, a classical painter who spent several years in prison for drug trafficking. While there, he focused on improving himself and improving his artistic skills. After his release and return to his hometown of Kansas City, he starts painting portraits of his family members to try to heal and figure out where he can fit into society now.
Learn his story and how he endured the rigors of life as an ex-con and other issues of racial injustice and intergenerational trauma. After showing at several film festivals this year and winning many of the top awards and maintaining a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating, it’s time to share it with the world. It’s not something you want to miss.
A Christmas Story Christmas (November 17)
Put November 17 in your calendar, because then A Christmas Story Christmasthe sequel to the classic holiday movie a Christmas story, will finally release. It’s been nearly 40 years, and with very few details revealed, the return of Peter Billingsley in his lead role as Ralphie (along with a few other actors reprising their roles) is very exciting.
Ralphie is now an adult with children of his own, he is in a difficult place in his life, struggling with his career and not quite where he wants to be. He returns his children to his old Cleveland Street home after his father’s death, reconnects with childhood friends and gives his children a magical Christmas like he had as a child.
Love, Lizzo (24 November)
Popular music artist Lizzo is the subject of a documentary about her own life this month, titled Love, Lizzo. It will explore her journey in the music industry and how popular she became by being herself. Starting from her humble beginnings to the present, witness her inspiring story and see more of the moments that shaped her fame, but from her perspective.
It takes a lot of hard work to become as successful as she is while maintaining her own body positivity and refusing to give in to structural norms of self-image, and she just wants to share the love with her fans who have helped her to reach this point and have been with her every step of the way. Love, Lizzo is sure to be a heartwarming time.
