Nancy Drew ends with upcoming fourth season on The CW

It’s the end of the line for Nancy drew. Ahead of the upcoming fourth season premiere, it was announced that the show has been canceled by The CW. According to Deadline, there have been internal discussions for months about possibly ending the show with Season 4, which is currently in development. With the show’s creative team fully aware of the situation, Season 4 was developed with the mindset that it will also be its last, and Season 4 would end with a satisfying series finale rather than an open-ended cliffhanger.


“We are so honored and proud to have brought Nancy Drew’s iconic determination, individuality and resilience to life through years of collaboration with incredible creative talents on camera, behind the scenes and with our studio and network partners,” series showrunners Noga Landau and Melinda Hsu Taylor said in a statement: “Our hearts are full of gratitude knowing that we are able to close this chapter with willfulness, inclusiveness and kindness – and of course with plenty of quests, supernatural fears and star-crossed romance along the way. We are especially indebted to our amazing fan community, whose connection to our themes and stories has meant the world to us. Season 4 will be a worthy and resonant reward for their continued love and support.”

Nancy Drew retires after another season

Nancy Drew is based on the mystery novels by Edward Stratemeyer and was developed for The CW by Noga Landau, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. It premiered on the network in 2019, introducing Kennedy McMann as a new incarnation of the titular sleuth. The cast also included Leah Lewis, Maddison Jaizani, Tunji Kasim, Alex Saxon, Alvina August, Riley Smith and Scott Wolf.

During his run, Nancy drew has also seen a spin-off series that has already come and gone. In 2020, it was announced that the show would expand with the spin-off Tom Swift series starring Tian Richards. That show, based on Victor Appleton’s Tom Swift book series, premiered on The CW in May. The series was canceled after one season the following month, as it did not attract the same viewership as the mother show.

The fourth and final season of Nancy drew doesn’t have a premiere date yet.
