City on a Hill canceled during Showtime after three seasons

It’s the end of the line for City on a hill. Per Variety, it has been reported that Showtime will be ending the series after the third season ends in September. There will be no fourth season, so the series finale that aired on September 25 now serves as the season finale. However, according to the new report, Showtime had made the decision months ago under the auspices of former Paramount Premium Group Chairman and CEO David Nevins, who has since been succeeded by Chris McCarthy.

A statement regarding the show’s cancellation has been released by Showtime, and you can read it below.

“City on a Hill concluded its successful run on Showtime with the Season 3 finale. We’ve had nothing but the best experience with Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge and the entire cast and crew, led by showrunner Tom Fontana and fellow executive producers , including Jennifer Todd and Jorge Zamacona. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone.”

City on a hill was created by Chuck Mclean and executive produced by series stars Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge alongside Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Barry Levinson and showrunner Tom Fontana. Along with Bacon and Hodge, Jonathan Tucker, Mark O’Brien, Lauren E. Banks, Amanda Clayton, Jere Shea, Kevin Chapman and Jill Hennessy also starred in the series.

Kevin Bacon will miss playing Jackie Rohr

Kevin Bacon is a veteran of the screen, although he especially loved portraying his character in City on a hill. Per Next Avenuethe actor previously spoke about how Jackie Rohr is someone with so many layers to him that it was always fun for Bacon as an actor to bring him to life throughout the three seasons of the show.

“So exactly what’s great about playing this character is that he’s not one or the other,” Bacon said. “To begin with, he’s a street-wise kid who’s had a very tough upbringing and came out with no money and in very difficult circumstances, and yet he’s made his way to college. He’s, frankly, very well-read and incredibly verbose and does this insane knowledge of everything, whether it be true or not – because he spits a lot [bull].”

He added: “But he’s definitely read a lot of stuff. One of my favorite parts of the show is that you never see Jackie read a book, and yet he just seems to be able to quote countless numbers of books.”

Meanwhile, fans can still look forward to seeing Bacon and Hodge in other roles, with both appearing in new superhero-based projects. Bacon was recently featured in the trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will bring the actor to the MCU. The special will be released on Disney+ on November 25, 2022. As for Hodge, he can be seen on the big screen in The Rock’s new movie Black Adam, and given the film’s financial success, we’ll most likely see more of Hodge in the DCU. Hodge has also just been cast in the titular role for an upcoming Alex Cross series at Prime Video.
