Rick Gonzalez’s character ‘thrown in chaos’

In Thursday’s episode of “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” we learn more about how one of the newest members of the squad, Bobby Reyes, whose willingness to put himself in danger by going undercover in prison has led him to stabbed, but also the information the squad needs.

Former “Arrow” regular Rick Gonzalez, who plays Reyes, told TheWrap why he loves playing the detective, dubbed “The Invisible Man” for his covert abilities.

“I was really impressed by Bobby Reyes because to be honest, I haven’t really auditioned very much for characters like him. There’s a lot of mystery to him,” said Gonzalez, who appeared in a 1999 episode of “SVU.” He also appeared as a guest star in the episode, in which he is being questioned by Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). “It’s weird and surreal, to be back here, 20 somewhat weird years later, but it’s great,” he laughed.

“I think for me the most important thing about Bobby was understanding someone who won’t hesitate, who is fearless. He is someone who thrives in chaos,” the actor said. “That is something he carries. It has been, this load, this engine with which it is fighting. That’s what I want to sing about him. That, to me, makes him a real person, a real human being who is a detective. ,

Gonzalez is fascinated by how complex the character is. “As a Latino, a Puerto Rican/Dominican actor who has played so many different characters, it is rare that we get to see a really strong character who is smart, but also very complex,” he Told. “specially for [‘Law & Order’] Universe, it exposes him in a really good way. The more complex and more daring and the more we get to see his abilities, the more I get excited about it, because I think we don’t see enough of it. ,

This week’s “Behind Blue Eyes” is the first in a two-episode arc about Bobby’s past. “We dive in with Bobby and see who he is, what he’s behaved like, what he’s carrying,” Gonzalez explained. “I really appreciate the writers taking this approach very quickly and showing who he is. And showing why he’s able to be someone who isn’t afraid in these moments, not in chaos. , is not afraid in very dangerous situations. In case, he is being stabbed in prison, being stabbed himself properly and knowing how to do it.”

Here's What Happened Last Season on 'Law & Order,' 'SVU,' and 'Organized Crime'

Stabler and Sgt. Bell (Danielle Monáe Truit) first meets Reyes without realizing it: he shows up in the squad room as a repairman, only to later introduce himself as his new co-worker. As the OC crew tries to capture Rich Silage for the murder of a man who will not be able to make his way to his deluxe casino, Bobby has already gone undercover several times, most dangerously, in a prison where He won the trust of an informer, but almost died in the process.

Now the stakes are getting higher. “We’ll see him do some bad things to go undercover,” Gonzalez said. “He is also someone who is really good at police work and can handle himself in very dangerous situations. I think the writers did a great job of creating someone who can push themselves deep enough to find information. And it’s fun for me.”

In a clip from the episode above, he is reunited with Stabler and Det. Whelan (Brent Antonello) as they prepare for the next call.

“Law & Order: Organized Crime” airs Thursdays at 10 PT/ET on NBC.
