Dodgeball was a comedic hit in 2004 and Justin Long believes a sequel could be possible.
While it is currently in vogue for 80s and 90s movies to get legacy sequels, it looks like the 2004 Ben Stiller movie Dodgeball: a true underdog story could be added to the list of upcoming sequels as movie star Vince Vaughn has an idea for a new movie, according to his dodgeball co-star Justin Long. While discussing his current film, Barbarian, with ComicBook.comLong was asked if there was a possibility for Dodgeball 2. He replied:
“I’m doing a podcast with my brother called Life is Short and when we had Ben Stiller and I asked Ben about this because I had just been working with Vince Vaughn again. Vince wrote this movie, it’s like a parody of Christmas movies that I have that in came out in December called Christmas with the Campbells so I had just been around Vince a lot and Vince told me he had a great idea for a sequel I don’t know if he suggested it to Ben but I set up the field a bit, I had the feeling that I had to facilitate the field.
“Of course I’d love to do it and I hope it eventually happens, but I think Ben is a little bit. people enjoy that so much. It’s very risky, you don’t want to go after the original, you want something that’s just as good So I think he’s a little hesitant about that, to recreate something that was very specific to that time, but I hope he comes out of it. Vince is a very persuasive person, so I hope Vince can convince him with his idea. It’s a funny idea, I don’t want to say what it is.”
Is doing dodgeball Need a sequel?
While Ben Stiller may have had success with sequels to movies like Night at the museum and Meet the parentshe wasn’t so lucky with the late sequel to zoolander. dodgeball was a pretty self-contained movie, and the story was done and dusted into one movie, meaning a late addition to the hit could be a bad move.
Of course, if Vaughn’s idea was enough to interest the original cast and studio, then there’s no reason to assume it won’t happen at some point, with nostalgic throwbacks bringing in big numbers both at the box office. as on streaming platforms . One of the major stumbling blocks could be Stiller returning for another round of dodgeball, but Long added that he thinks it could be something he might want a piece of. He said:
“I know Ben loves Dodgeball and that character. I remember how much fun he had playing. He was always smiling. When we got together years later to have a little reunion for this charity and Ben got a mustache again “I remember him talking about how happy it made him to play White Goodman again and how much fun that character was. I know Vince has a great idea for it and it’s just a matter of getting Ben on board.”
