Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur worked on his most ambitious project – Paani. However, the project never met its sweet end as it was reportedly on the back burner. Now it looks like the director has found a middle ground to finish Paani soon.
Shekhar Kapur confirms Paani’s revival: ‘I’m in touch with a few producers’
Several reports, circulating on the internet, claimed that Kapur was planning to revive the project and is in talks with some producers. Kapur broke his silence on the matter and confirmed the reports. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Shekhar said: “Yes, I have plans to revive Paaniand I’m in touch with a few producers to discuss the possibility.”
The top filmmaker went on to say, “Hopefully next year, but let’s talk when everything’s locked down. It’s a dramatic script about many relationships, including a love story, and water is the key to the love story. It’s a very spiritual story, because water is the key to every faith in the world.”
Kapur gave more details about the project, adding: “The film will also be shot in English, Flow.. The Story of Water. Meanwhile, I’m currently focusing on the promotions of What’s Love Got to Do With It?, which is getting some great response at the festivals, including the recent Rome Film Festival. I’m really excited about it.”
For the inexperienced, this project of Shekhar came to light after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Previously, the late actor and Kapur were getting ready to work together for Paani. However, it was shelved after Yash Raj Film (YRF) withdrew. A few days after SSR’s death, Shekhar had the script of Paani.
In a tweet along with a BTS still, Kapur wrote: “Recorded 12 years ago. Part of huge bank of #Paani research photos/illustrations. The film script is about a future city where the rich take all the water. And then use water as weapon of political and social control. It’s a cautionary tale about what’s to come if we’re not careful.”
