Veteran singer Amit Kumar and son of Kishore Kumar had brutally criticized the creators of Indian Idol 12, the judges and the contestants of the show when he appeared as a guest on the special episode of Kishore Kumar last year. He graced the show again this year, praising a contestant in yet another special episode of Kishore Kumar.
During the episode, Indian Idol 13 contestant Debosmita Roy from Kolkata stunned Amit Kumar including judges Himesh Reshammiya, Neha Kakkar and Vishal Dadlani by choosing a difficult song Tere Mere Milan Ki Yeh Raina. The song is inspired by the Bengali song Jodi Taare Nayi Chini Go Sheki, originally sung by Kishore Kumar. It was recomposed by SD Burman for the Hindi version of the 1973 film Abhimaan.
After hearing Debosmita’s performance, Amit said: “Beautifully sung. Kya awaaz hai! (What a voice) The way you felt and sang the song was excellent. I think you will soon be the voice of our industry.” He even autographed her on the gold microphone she received during the auditions. Himesh also praised her and said that her voice is divine and touches the heart of every listener.
It came as a surprise, as Amit had expressed his displeasure with the singing reality show and said he was being asked to praise the contestants. He also hated the way judges paid tribute to his late father. It remains to be seen whether Amit will be happy with this year’s Kishore Kumar special.
