Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan and director Ayan Mukerji’s magnum opus Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva will hit theaters in September 2022 after a five-year wait. With anticipation mounting around the film, the director has unveiled a new video explaining the vision behind the film and what Astraverse means.
Ayan Mukerji narrates the mystical universe of Brahmastra: ‘No one has done what we do with ancient Indian inspiration in the modern world’
In a new video, Ayan Mukerji explains: “Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva one is the first film of this Astraverse, and it begins with an image from a mystical time in ancient India, where a group of sages practice deep meditation in the Himalayas. And for their meditation the sages are blessed with the light of the universe. The most powerful and pure energy that is Brahma Shakti. From this Brahma Shakti Astras are born, which have within them all the different energies found in nature, fire, wind, water, earth. The Jal Astra, Pawan Astra and the Agni Astra – the astras that have the powers of various animals in them, such as the Vanar Astra, which can give the person who controls it the power of a Super Monkey. The Nandi Astra, which has in it the power and strength of 1000 bulls.”
He continues: “But there is one Astra, the last to emerge from the light, with its collective essence, the Lord of all others, whom the sages call after one of the mightiest weapons of our gods, the Brahmastra. The sages promised to protect these astras and as the guardians of the Brahmastra they called themselves the Brahmansh, a secret society that will exist among other people, and will do good to the world with the power of these astras. the Brahmansh also continues, passing on the Astras from generation to generation down to our world today, where the Brahmansh still exists in secret.”
Ayan goes on to say, “India, as it is now, is where the story of… Brahmastra is set. I believe this puts us in a very unique position because no one has ever done what we do with ancient Indian inspiration in the modern world. And now on to the hero of Brahmastra, our protagonist, a young man who has yet to discover that in this world of Astras he is a miracle because he himself is an Astra – Agni astra. In keeping with our spirit of homage to our roots, it is named after the god most dear to me personally, the most mystical, the almighty and my greatest inspiration, Shiva.”
Directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures, the magnum opus will be released theatrically on September 9, 2022 in 5 Indian languages - Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada featuring an amazing ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni.
The film is presented by SS Rajamouli in all four southern languages - Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The film will be released in September 2022 and the trailer will arrive on June 15.
