Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya Returns to Directing with Upcoming Movie uuncha. The last film he directed was Prem Ratan Dhan Payo starring his frequent collaborator Salman Khan. The latter made his starring debut in Head Pyrar Kiya in 1989 and since then they have collaborated on several family-friendly films. It turns out that Khan encouraged the filmmaker to work on family films.
Uunchai director Sooraj Barjatya says Salman Khan encourages him to make family-oriented movies
Speaking to PTI, Sooraj Barjatya revealed: “He says, ‘I do my action everywhere, but we will do family dramas together. He always encourages me to get back to what we’re doing. He’s like let’s do the same… Like you have a brother, sister and family, because nobody does that these days. He says, ‘Let’s go back to these (movies)’. In essence, it is a part of his life and even mine. Plus, we both want to spend more time together.”
At the launch of the trailer of uuncha recently Barjatya revealed that Salman Khan wanted to be a part of the film. “While I was making this, Salman asked me, ‘Sooraj, what are you making?’ then: ‘Why are you going to the hills?’ Then he also said, ‘I can do this movie!’ I said no! Because we all know he can climb mountains, but I needed people who can look like they can’t,” said the filmmaker.
The relationship between Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan goes way back when Khan debuted as lead actor in Rajshri Productions’ Maine Pyr kiya. He went to the star in Hum Aapke Hai Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hai and Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo.
Sooraj and Salman will reunite in another project that is also family space. He plans to work on it after his son Avnish Barjatya’s directing, in which he will launch Sunny Deol’s youngest son Rajveer and Paloma, the daughter of actress Poonam Dhillon.
In the meantime, uuncha is a film that promises to celebrate emotion, relationships and age, uuncha is led by Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Sarika, Neena Gupta and Parineeti Chopra, with special appearances by Danny Denzongpa and Nafisa Ali Sodhi. uuncha is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022.
