The CW ax keeps falling and Stargirl becomes the last victim of the cull. The show ends in December with the season three finale.
Looks like DC cancellations at The CW are still coming star girl be the last victim. Although the show’s third season has aired on the network and it appears to have avoided the axe, Deadline reported that star girl will join the hefty list of scripted shows that have ended on The CW in the past six months. star girl will end on December 7 when the season three finale airs.
While many of the previously canceled series ended without any warning, it appears that the star girl team knew the sword of Damocles hung over them and got a chance to write a fitting ending for the show. star girl creator Geoff Johns said of the news:
“Stargirl has always held a special place in my heart for many reasons. With all the brewing changes at the network, we knew this might be the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and delivered what I think is the best season of Stargirl so far, with full creative closure. The cast and crew are extraordinary, and I want to thank them for helping me bring this series to life. Brec embodied Courtney in every way – with grace, strength and humor – surpassing my I am grateful to WBTV and The CW for giving us a home to tell this story and to honor my beloved late sister, and I am extremely grateful to the press and fans who have always supported us through three amazing seasons. Most series never get that far. We couldn’t be more proud of our show and the fan community it has built!”
star girl star Brec Bassinger also commented on the end of the series, thanking everyone who has supported the show and calling her time as part of the DC franchise the “greatest honor.” She said:
“It was the greatest honor to play Stargirl and be a part of the DC Universe, and I am so grateful for every moment of it. I want to thank our fearless leader Geoff Johns, along with WBTV, The CW, the cast and the Stargirl crew, and of course the fans. Thank you. This show will live on in my heart forever.”
Is Stargirl The Only Show To Be Canceled At The CW?
The CW now has new ownership, with Nexstar recently purchasing a 75% stake in the network, bringing current owners Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery are left with 12.5% each. While Nexstar will still be using content from both studios along with other providers, the bulk of The CW’s news thus far has been about which shows will not go through on the network.
In May, DC fans were shocked when the ax fell DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman and new series Naomi. Next to this, The flash was later announced to end with its 9th season, and numerous other shows such as Dynasty, Charmed, Nancy Drew and Riverdale have all bit the dust. Or star girl will be the last of the cancellations remains to be seen, but the number of popular shows still running on the network continues to tick down.
