Bryan Fuller Says Nothing Is Offended in Friday the 13th Prequel Series

It’s official: the Friday the 13th franchise is getting a revival, this time as a streaming series on Peacock. It was recently reported that Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) is on board to write and serve as showrunner Crystal Lakea series set in the years before the original Friday the 13th series. Due to the legal battle over the rights to the series, the original report also stated that: Crystal Lake could only recognize elements that were in the first Friday the 13th movie. However, Fuller has now provided some clarification on: Crystal Lakedenying that he does not have access to the hockey mask and other incarnations of Jason Voorhees that fans will recognize.

The update comes straight from Fuller in a new interview with Fangoria. Although there’s only so much Fuller can tell you about Crystal Lake at this point he wanted to disprove the idea that he had no references to any of the Friday the 13th prosecute. According to Fuller, everything is on the table, even Uber Jason van Jason X. In fact should Crystal Lake spanning ten seasons, Fuller will get Jason back to space. From the interview:

“Everything. We Can Use” everything. We can go to hell, we can go to space. That doesn’t mean we shall do those things…although if we to do go 10 seasons, I will lobby hard to go to space.”

Crystal Lake isn’t quite a prequel either, though it is, as Fuller adds. While he can’t say exactly what he means, Fuller teases that the series will also serve as a… Friday the 13th remake, meaning some changes may have been made to the story as seen in the original movie written by Victor Miller. As Fuller explains:

“I don’t think I’m allowed to say it yet, but I’d say it’s less of a prequel series than a … pre-remake-uel series.”

Crystal Lake will be no less violent than the Friday the 13th movies

While there is a Friday the 13th series in the past, it didn’t feature Jason Voorhees, as it only shared his name with the movies. Crystal Lake will be the first series to actually be about Jason and his maniacal mother, Pamela Voorhees, who was played by the late Betsy Palmer in the original film. But even if the film is partially a prequel, we shouldn’t count on there being less carnage than what we’ve seen over the course of the film series, as Fuller teases as he reiterates his wish to send Jason back to the stars. .

“It’s going to be pretty killer! I think we’re going to be dropping bodies every episode, and I think there’s something going on with the build of that because we’re hopefully for the long haul. I wasn’t kidding: if we get 10 seasons, I’m going to make a concerted effort to find a way to go to space rationally and dramatically and somehow. to go 10 seasons, but I’ll put that there that, uh… well, I haven’t gotten any further than explaining the first three seasons, honestly, so I guess it’s really easy for me to say, yeah, if we get to 10 seasons, we’ll go into space. Just wait!”

An official premiere date has not yet been set for Crystal Lake at Peacock. Now that the series has been officially announced, let’s hope for more fruitful updates in the near future.
