Jennifer Lawrence pulls out of Elizabeth Holmes role, calls Amanda Seyfried “amazing”

Elizabeth Holmes has become a household name, thanks in part to Amanda Seyfried’s Emmy Award-Winning Performance on Hulu’s the outage. Another award-winning actress was slated to portray the disgraced biotech entrepreneur in the upcoming film bad blood: Jennifer Lawrence. However, the actress now tells The New York Times that she has left the Apple Originals Film, for the reason of Seyfried’s incredible performance. Lawrence told reporter Kyle Buchanan:

“I thought she was great. I thought, ‘Yeah, we don’t have to do that again.’ She did it.”

bad blood is based on the 2018 book of the same name written by journalist John Carreyrou, which examines the rapid success and failure of Theranos, the multibillion-dollar health technology startup founded by Elizabeth Holmes (who has since been convicted of criminal fraud). The film, if it does indeed go on without Lawrence, will be directed by Adam McKay.

McKay and Lawrence collaborated on Netflix’s don’t look upthe actress’s first film after a two-year hiatus from 2019 X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The actress spoke about her hiatus from the film after her portrayal of Raven/Mystique in the Marvel film. Lawrence explained to the publication that she started to feel more like a celebrity and less like an actor because of some of the roles she took on and felt disconnected from her “creativity” and “imagination.”

The actress mentioned a certain remorse, passengers, the 2016 sci-fi romance in which she co-starred with Chris Pratt. The film received less than favorable reviews, and when Lawrence learned that the audience was not happy with the film, she thought:

“I thought, ‘Oh no, you’re here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided this was a good movie?’ Adele told me not to! She said, “I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.” I should have listened to her.”

Lawrence will next appear in the psychological drama Causeway, debuts on Apple TV+ this Friday. She plays Lynsey, an American soldier who is forced to return home after a traumatic brain injury in a car explosion while traveling through Afghanistan. The film, which has received positive reception from critics, follows Lynsey’s story as she struggles to adjust to her new normal.

Lawrence will appear in next year No hard feelings, a comedy starring Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Natalie Morales and Matthew Broderick. The film is currently in production and is slated to be released in June 2023.
