7 Big Franchises That Need A Movie For The Holidays

As the holiday season approaches, it’s that time of year again to crack the classic Christmas movies. Whether you are a fan of the short animated films A Charlie Brown Christmas or you prefer newer movies like The Christmas Chronicles, it’s time to kick back with some hot chocolate and get into the holiday spirit. What better way to do that than to explore all the holiday content available, including holiday spin-offs.


While the classics always produce the nostalgia long associated with the holiday season, newer holiday content brings a modern take on the meaning of Christmas. Another way to get into the Christmas spirit is to watch a Christmas special from a favorite movie/TV franchise The Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special (with Kevin Bacon, no less). This MCU special provided laughs with our favorite holiday-themed characters to get us in the mood for the season. Other franchises have done just this, but there are those that deserve a holiday special and didn’t get one. Here are seven big franchises that need a movie for the holidays.

One of the greatest franchises in movie history is The Avengers. With several movies and countless spin-offs, The Avengers is undoubtedly one of the most lucrative franchises on the market. A vacation Avengers movie would bring a new level of connection between the viewers and the characters, making room for Christmas in the realm of superheroes and supervillains. While it may not seem feasible to make up for Christmas The Avengers universe, a holiday movie would give the franchise an extra layer of cheer, giving viewers something to watch as the holiday season approaches. Wouldn’t it be cool to see the Hulk and Captain America fight alongside Santa? It wouldn’t exactly be difficult, since Santa is actually one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful mutants (via CBR).

Toy Story is a Disney-Pixar franchise that started in the 90s and only recently came to an end Toy story 4 (through IGN). As well as being popular with kids, these movies have a certain appeal to adults as we’ve all wondered what our toys do when we’re not around. While a few holiday shorts are related to Toy Story were made, a feature film would undoubtedly be a great addition to the franchise. Not only would it be a joy to look at our favorite toys, but it would also help get kids in the holiday spirit. It would also allow the franchise to potentially introduce holiday-themed toys such as elf-on-a-shelf.

Considering that the latest installment of the Batman franchise, Matt Reeves’ The batter, is a very dark take on the classic hero, the addition of a holiday movie might seem a bit long. That said, in the original comics, there were a number of Christmas themed comics that featured Batman. Some might argue that Batman returns was actually a Christmas movie, it would be interesting to see Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman in a Christmas movie. It wouldn’t just be a holiday treat, but this concept has the potential to put a dark twist on the classic revelry.

X-Men

The X-Men is another long-running superhero franchise based on the Stan Lee comic books. The franchise is packed with different characters with special powers thanks to the X-Gen. The addition of a holiday-themed movie to the franchise might seem a bit long given the content of the movies, but it’s a lot like The Avengersthere are different holiday themes X-Men comics. With Santa and other holiday-themed heroes, it would be interesting to see Wolverine interact with holiday-themed characters like Santa and Jack Frost.

The American pie franchise features a number of insanely dirty comedies revolving around the sexual activities of a young group of men. The franchise is hypersexual and often referred to as raunchy, and while it seems like those things might not mesh well with a holiday movie, the reality is that the addition of a American pie A holiday-themed movie would show us some of the realities of the holiday season. Perhaps showing a focus on the problems visiting family can cause, as seen in National Lampoon’s Christmas holiday. Needless to say, a American pie holiday movie would be a welcome comedic addition to any Christmas movie library.

One of the most popular franchises of all time is the Fast & Furious movie franchise, which revolves around a group of characters who continue their lives through street racing, committing robberies and acknowledging the true meaning of the word family. With a total of nine films and a number of short films and TV series, the addition of a holiday film seems long overdue. While not entirely reasonable, it would be interesting to see the classic characters drifting through the snow to try and save Christmas.

One franchise that was surprisingly successful was the pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Thanks to the star-studded cast and thrilling adventure stories, Disney managed to pull out a total of five films from the franchise, and although a sixth was rumored, it was ultimately scrapped. That said, the Pirates franchise could do with a holiday themed movie. While the modern concept of Christmas is very different from what it would have been in the days when pirates of the Caribbean is set, it would still be interesting to see how Disney would pull it off. Can you imagine Jack Sparrow running around next to Santa in a holiday movie?
