Jennifer Gray teases more returning original characters for Dirty Dancing 2

Jennifer Gray teased that the Dirty Dancing sequel will feature “other characters” from the original film.


The original Dirty dancing movie was released in 1987 and played Jennifer Grey as a baby housekeeper. Set in the summer of 1963, the story follows Baby as she falls in love with Johnny Castle (played by Patrick Swayze), a dancer at the Kellerman’s resort. The film was a huge box office success, grossing over $214 million worldwide, and its soundtrack went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time.


Jennifer Gray recently released some details about the upcoming sequel to Dirty Dancing. Speak against Additional, Gray revealed that the new film will feature “other characters” from the original film. She didn’t elaborate on who those characters might be, but it’s sure to get fans excited. She also revealed that the sequel will be shot in the same location as the first film, which is shot at the fictional Kellerman’s resort. Gray will reprise her role as Baby in the sequel.

“I’d say you can count on it being at Kellerman’s, returning to Kellerman’s, and Baby being quite a few years older. You will see other characters coming from the original. It is difficult and also exciting.”

This is great news for fans of the film, as it means the sequel will have the same feel as the original. And who doesn’t love a little nostalgia? It’s also worth noting that the original movie was filmed on a shoestring budget, so it’ll be interesting to see how the sequel compares. Will it be a big budget Hollywood production? Dirty Dancing 2 will not replace Patrick Swayze

Jennifer Gray has assured fans that the Dirty Dancing sequel won’t try to replace Patrick Swayze, who passed away in 2009. Gray.

“All I can say is there’s no substitute for someone who’s passed — you never try to repeat something so magical. You just go for something else.”

Lionsgate confirmed in August 2020 that a sequel was in the works, with Gray starring and producing. The studio hired director Jonathan Levine to helm the project in May 2022. All in all, it sounds like the Dirty Dancing sequel is going to be everything fans of the original film could hope for. With Jennifer Gray returning as Frances “Baby” Houseman, fans will get to see what happens next with their favorite character. Plus, other familiar faces will appear in the movie as well, making it really feel like a continuation of the original story.

Dirty Dancing 2 will hit theaters in February 2024.
