Trevor Noah doubts GOP crackdown on Trump dinner

In the wake of twice-impeached former President Donald Trump’s dinner with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and white supremacist Nick Fuentes, many Republican politicians are shaming Trump’s choice. Huh. But “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah certainly doesn’t expect that to last long.

Trump hosted the two last week at his Mar-a-Lago resort, sparking widespread backlash considering recent antisemitic posts and Fuentes’ well-documented legacy of hate speech. But, in the days following the dinner, Trump attempted to dodge responsibility for the meeting by claiming that he had no idea Fuentes would be at the dinner, and that he did not even know who Fuentes was.

And that, Noah really believes. The host acknowledged Tuesday night that it was a reasonable defense — but Trump still should have caught on fairly early during the meal.

“Like if your friend brings Darth Vader over to your house for dinner, it’s not your fault. But in 15 minutes, any decent person will say ‘I’m not comfortable with this guy blowing up planets. How much does it matter,'” Noah joked.

Still, the late-night host is happy to see that the GOP isn’t necessarily deterred by Trump’s actions this time. Of course, even Noah doesn’t think this will last very long.

He scoffed, “It’s nice for Republican officials to speak out against Trump for a change, but we all know how that’s going to end.” “Republicans get mad at Trump for a while, and then they always get back with him in the end. Trump scandals are basically like Hallmark movies, you know? Except Trump never really changes and becomes a better person.
