The Midnight Club is canceled from Netflix after one season

It’s going to be one season and it’s done The midnight club at Netflix. It is reported (via DeWrap) that the horror series, whose first season debuted in October, has been officially canceled. No second season will be developed, meaning the first season finale, which left many questions unanswered, will also serve as the series finale. While the news is naturally unfortunate for fans of the show, co-creator Mike Flanagan is sure to be disappointed as well, as he anticipates a long run The midnight club.

“This one [series] was designed to continue,” Flanagan said shortly after the show’s premiere, per Variety. “I don’t know if it will happen. We’ll see how it goes and we probably won’t know what Netflix wants to do for another month or so. But it was very much designed to go on. Pike has 80 books, so we have a lot of unused material to draw from.”

At the time, he also teased that fans will still get answers to the show’s mysteries. While it’s certainly not the same as watching new episodes over the course of a season, Flanagan vowed to announce that information on social media soon enough if the news came out. The midnight club cancelled, as just happened.

“We also haven’t answered some of the bigger questions of the season,” said Flanagan. “Those answers exist, but were intended for next season. If they are not there, I will put them on Twitter. At least then we can all talk about it.”

The timing of the show’s cancellation comes just as it has been reported that Flanagan would move from Netflix to Amazon Studios, signing a multi-year deal to produce exclusive shows for Prime Video. Flanagan previously worked on the anthology horror shows along with Trevor Macy The Ghost of Hill House, The Ghost of Bly Manorand Midnight Mass. They are also working on another project for Netflix called The Fall of the House of Usher. Unlike these other shows, alone The midnight club was conceived as potentially lasting for many seasons.

Inspired by Christopher Pike’s books, The midnight club follows a group of terminally ill individuals in a hospice who gather at night to share creepy stories. The series stars Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, Chris Sumpter, Adia, Aya Furukawa, Sauriyan Sapkota, Samantha Sloyan, Matt Biedel and Zach Gilford. Fan favorite of the horror genre Heather Langenkamp from A nightmare on Elm Street fame also plays a special role in the show.
