Nothing defines modern children’s animation like tiny, yellow, pill-shaped bodies with different eye numbers and adorable blue overalls. Despicable Me is a children’s animated film franchise that came out with its first movie in 2010. Since then, people of all ages have become fans of characters like Gru and all the Minions. In fact, the Minions are an entire entity unto themselves (via New York Times). The little creatures speak completely gibberish, sometimes Spanish and other languages mixed up, but kids, and even adults, eat it up.
The Minions are a loyal group to Gru, and with an army like that, what’s not to love? Despicable Me‘s story was warm, heartfelt and action packed. The movies had their bright spots, but none shone quite like the Minions. They were responsible for so much innocent comedy, character and nonsense. While there are many of the little guys out there, some hold a special place in our hearts. If you are a fan of the Despicable Me franchise, be sure to check out our ranking of the best Minions from the movies.
7/7 Karel
Karel is a charming little Minion. Many of the little guys have unique moments that stick in our minds when we think of the Minions. Carl actually has a very memorable line in the Despicable Me movies. He enters the room with a siren on and says “bee-do” through a megaphone. Well, at this point it was as annoying as it was cute, and he was instantly knocked out by being sprayed with a fire extinguisher.
6/7 George
The name Minion George happens to be the main subject of one of the most iconic Minion moments ever. Jorge is a wider Minion, with hair sticking straight up and two very nice eyes. The Minions with Gru are hilarious. But the Minions alone? Unparalleled. Jorge’s defining moment in the whole Despicable Me franchise was when he sat down on a scanner bare-bottomed to photocopy his own buttocks. The moment was charming, funny, and fit perfectly into what we’d categorize as Minion nonsense.
5/7 Dave
The names of all these Minions are so common compared to their alien personalities. Besides being uncontrollably whimsical and childish, the Minions are completely loyal to Gru. For example, we have Dave. Dave has two striking eyes and the most beautiful center piece we’ve ever seen. He is best known in the Despicable Me franchise for his role in disguising himself as an evil Minion. You know, the purple crazed-looking one with wild hair? At Gru’s request, Dave was one of the sacrificial lambs in this screenplay, and the whole scene was as chaotic as you can imagine.
4/7 Phil
We can’t rank the best Minions without mentioning Phil. Phil and his spiky hair don’t get an incredible amount of screen time all the time Despicable Me movies. However, his presence is certainly felt. Phil is best known for his iconic maid outfit. There are very few moments in minion history that burn pictures into our minds like this one did – looking this awesome deserves an award in its own right.
3/7 Stuart
Drumroll please for the main trio! Stuartnext to both Kevin and Bob, these guys make up the most important squad of minions in the Despicable Me/Minions franchise. Stuart has his iconic one eye on everything. He is involved in most of what the minions are up to and how they contribute to the main plot of the movies. Just to name a few of his on-screen contributions, Stuart is the one who sprayed Carl with the fire extinguisher, he flirted with a fire hydrant, and he was used as a minion glow stick.
2/7 Kevin
We all know and love Kevin. Kevin, among the sea of yellow, is an eye-catcher because of his height. Kevin is a larger Minion with two eyes, with a small tuft of hair in the middle of his head. Kevin is part of the main trio and an easy fan favorite Despicable Me franchise. As much as Kevin is an integral part of the Minion army and a great leader, at one point he is kidnapped by Dr. Nefario and becomes an evil purple minion himself.
1/7 Bob
When the public thinks of the Minions, the cuter they are, the more memorable. Well, in the main Minions trio, no one is cuter than Bob. Bob is the shorter two-eyed stocky minion without any hair next to Kevin and Stuart. He is involved in many of the major shenanigans in the Despicable Me movies and with a simple name like Bob, he is easily recognizable to fans. Also, his different colored eyes (green and brown) are a staple, and combined with his childish attitude and wit, Bob is easily one of the best minions in this franchise.
