“Saturday Night Live” opened the first new show in three weeks looking at how the GOP is reacting to Herschel Walker’s tight runoff Senate race in Georgia, with Kenan Thompson memorably reprising his role as former NFL repeated, moving away from the gaffe. To gaffe.
The “SNL” cold open begins with Mitch McConnell (James Austin Johnson), Marsha Blackburn (Cecilly Strong) and John Cornyn (Mickey Day) in a room at the Capitol, where Walker is called to discuss strategy. “Mr. McDonald, sorry I’m late, I was having so much fun on that free merry-go-round,” Thompson’s walker said to Johnson’s McConnell, mistaking a revolving door for a ride.

When vote-by-mail was mentioned, Walker replied, “You have to remember, they still have to count the votes cast by woman.” And when the seriousness of the runoff became apparent, Walker said, “Oh, I’m good at it, my ex-wife said that all I do is run off.”
Walker said at one point, “You can count on me, I’ve come to chew ass and kick bubble gum, and I’m completely out of gobblebum,” and when told he had to stay calm and Needing to focus on the message, she replied, “Exactly. Like Kanye.”
GOP senators then asked for some privacy (“You can toss a blanket over me and I fall asleep like a parrot,” Walker said, and he did), then privately mused about what Walker said this year. His last hope to win.
Afterwards, Johnson’s McConnell took Walker to his panic room, locking him in until the evacuation was complete. Walker happily steps inside, but then pauses and asks, “Why am I already there?” McConnell replied, “That’s a mirror, Herschel.”
