How ‘SVU’ Said Goodbye to Kelly Giddish’s Character Amanda Rollins (Photos)

After 12 seasons on “Law & Order: SVU,” Kelly Giddish’s character Amanda Rollins walks out of the squad room for the last time.

In the episode, “And a Trauma in a Pear Tree,” Rollins decides to leave the Special Victims Squad to take a teaching job at Fordham. The move didn’t come as a big surprise as his guest lecture at the university in the previous episode was very well received. The character was questioning her future in law enforcement after being shot in the stomach earlier this season and experiencing PTSD after returning to work.

Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was upset at first upon hearing that Rollins was leaving, but eventually gave her her blessing, sending Rollins off with a warm hug and the parting words, “Don’t postpone happiness.”

“You taught me how to be a good detective,” Rollins told Benson. “You taught me how to love myself and how to let go of people – victims and Carissi.”

Prior to his exit, Rollins and on-screen love ADA Dominic “Sonny” Carici Jr. (Peter Scanavino) married in a small courtroom ceremony with Olivia, Finn Tutuola (Ice-T) and Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano) present. Showrunner David Graziano told TheWrap ahead of the season 24 premiere that he was a big fan of the “Rollisi” pairing and that Giddish’s departure was not his idea.

Giddish is set to appear in an upcoming episode of “Law & Order: Organized Crime.”
