Lizzo replaces Yes Yes Yes as musical guest in final 2022 episode

Lizzo has stepped in to serve as the musical guest on the December 17 episode of “Saturday Night Live”, after previously booked guests Yeah Yeah Yeahs were forced to cancel due to a medical issue. Austin Butler continues to host the episode.

Yes Yes Yes announced their cancellation late Saturday, explaining that guitarist Nick Zinner has been suffering from pneumonia for more than a month and still needs to recover. “The band’s top priority is to support Nick through a full recovery, which resulted in us forfeiting his engagements for KROQ’s Acoustic Christmas and ‘Saturday Night Live,'” the band said in a statement.

We’re bummed for Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but Lizzo killed it when she served as both host and musical guest in April. Her performance of “About Damn Time” was especially incredible, which is to say, we wish Zinner a speedy recovery and look forward to an early Christmas gift from Lizzo.

“SNL” announced the lineup change midway through the December 10 episode of “SNL”, which featured hosts Martin Short and Steve Martin and musical guest Brandi Carlisle. The episode began with a strange technical glitch, as the audio fell out of sync during the cold open and part of Martin and Short’s monologues.

Fortunately, the sound issues were quickly fixed so that it didn’t mar the otherwise delightful monologue, which featured Martin and Short roasting each other with a mock funeral. You can read more about that here.
