Luca Guadagnino Wins Sundance International Icon Award

Sundance has crowned “Bones and All” director Luca Guadagnino the winner of the International Icon Award.

Guadagnino will be joined by previously announced honorees Ryan Coogler, W. Kamau Bell and Nikyatu Jusu at the Opening Night: A Taste of Sundance event presented by IMDbPro. The ceremony will take place on January 19, kicking off the 10-day Utah festival.

The International Icon Award is given to “an international auteur who creates distinctive cinematic universes and has made a lasting impact on cinema, particularly through a commitment to storytelling and unwavering creative vision,” Sundance said in a press release. .

Guadagnino is a Sundance alumnus dating back to 2010, when he released his feature film “I Am Love.” He returned to the festival with 2017’s “Call Me By Your Name,” which starred “Bones and All” headliner Timothée Chalamet. Guadagnino also produced the documentary “The Truffle Hunters”, which was screened at Sundance in 2020.

“Sundance has always felt like home to me; I have been to the festival four times,” Guadagnino said in a statement. “I particularly remember the warmth with which the festival received Call Me By Your Name and how it changed my life. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have the honor of receiving this award.”

The Sundance Film Festival will take place in person from January 19-29, 2023, with a virtual edition from January 24-29, 2023.
