Cecily Strong gets emotional in finale Kathie Anne’s Weekend Update

Cecily Strong made one final Weekend Update appearance on Saturday’s episode of “SNL” as recurring character Cathy Anne, but in her departure she intentionally broke character for an emotional sendoff.

“I’ve had so much fun here,” she began in her Kathie Anne voice, before transitioning into her regular voice as tears welled up in her eyes. “And I feel really lucky that I got to have so many great moments of my life in this place, with these people that I love so much.”

That final line received wild applause from the audience, after which Strong returned as Kathie Anne.

“But I’m leaving. Take that with a grain of salt if I think I have an addiction problem.

Her exit from the series after 11 seasons was announced only an hour before the start of the Saturday show.

Before parting, Kathie Anne admitted that she was “a little emo tonight,” adding, “Because the truth is, I’m here to say goodbye.”

As it turns out, Kathie Anne said all her admissions of crimes on Weekend Update had caught up with her and she was going to jail. He then listed some of the above crimes with cool sides about cracking them.

“Drug use, trespassing, destruction of property (crack), impersonation of a police office (meth and crack), and a sonic assault.”

When asked by Michael Che what a sonic attack was, he replied, “I did an upper decker in the soft serve machine at Sonic.”

Anne tells her not to worry about it, though, because she’s got “friends on the inside,” followed by a photo of former “SNL” cast members Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon in prison gear, to applause from the audience. with thunder.

Anne/Strong also received a callback when she was chosen to co-host Weekend Update with Colin Jost.

Strong ended her final Weekend Update segment by actually lighting her cigarette, alluding to the fact that in many of her previous appearances, Cathy Anne is always trying to light her cigarette, but never ignites it. Huh.

“It’s like another great drug addict: There’s no place like home and there’s no home like the place where I’ve been to Michael Che screaming outside the window.”
