What is the Cirkus movie story about?

The Jamnadas Anaath Aashram in Ooty is run by two orphans Roy and Joy, who grew up in the same orphanage. It is a safe haven for all those children who have no one to call themselves. Dr. Roy (Murali Sharma) harbors a purpose in his heart. He wants to change the way the world sees orphans and make them see and believe that more than one’s family, bloodline or caste and religion, education is the most important thing. He strikes gold when two sets of identical twins are chosen by two sets of loving but childless parents. Dr. Roy replaces twins from set A with one from set B, creating a set of brothers Roy and Joy (Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma) who will be raised by parents who run a successful Cirkus in Ooty and another set of Roy and Joy (Ranveer and Varun), who will be raised by industrial parents in Bangalore. Many years later, the Bangalore twins land in Ooty, leading to multiple instances of mistaken identity leading to chaos and confusion until the twins finally clash.

What’s hot

Known for creating an immersive experience fit for the big screen, Rohit Shetty takes us back to his quaint and colorful universe with Cirkus. Though it is a comedy of errors, luckily the protagonists Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma are not caricatured. The comedy revolves around them, propelled by the impeccable comedic timing of actors like Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Jadhav and Johnny Lever, among others. Their puns and puns will get you a laugh here and there and special mention for using songs from yesteryear that fit the situational comedy so well adding to the whole experience. Ranveer Singh doesn’t do anything out of the ordinary in this movie for a change, but he sticks to his character without going overboard in a desperation to prove how good an actor he is. The casting is perfect and the supporting characters, as always, steal the show. Cirkus has a subtle message that is very relevant and kudos to Shetty for touching something so sensitive again without getting preachy and without any propaganda.

What not

If you’re expecting as much laughter as Rohit Shetty’s previous movies in his comic universe, you’ll be disappointed. While there are times when you freak out, most of the jokes are childish or have a sense of “seen,” “heard that.” The first half is slow, but luckily the film picks up again after the intermission. The secondary characters in Shetty’s films always stood out. And it is a given that in a universe there will be uniformity when it comes to characters and their nuances. While that’s okay, it’s about time, but there are some new additions with newer quirks to his ‘highly exposed’ ensemble to add some fresh entertainment. The songs could have been better, nothing stands out except Current Laga, also thanks to Deepika Padukone, who lights up the screens with her performance. Ranveer and Deepika look like they are having fun and making you want to see more of them in a full-fledged movie.

BL verdict

Cirkus is directed by Rohit Shetty, the man behind some of Bollywood’s most beloved great entertainers; it stars Ranveer Singh, one of the best actors we have in India right now, and the movie is fit for the holidays. It’s the season to be merry! So if you’re looking for a family movie with some innocent entertainment this holiday season, Cirkus is for you. Tip: Be sure to bring the children and the older people in the family.
