Kevin Smith announced that the long discussed Elk jaws will be one of his next movies. The movie is exactly what it sounds like based on the title. Jaws, but with an elk. The news came during a GalaxyCon Q&A, alongside a slew of other announcements for its future release schedule. According to Smith, Elk jaws will finally be able to happen thanks to the people of Lionsgate, with whom he worked
“We sold so many copies of it Restart Jay & Silent Bob on DVD and Blu-ray that if you’ve got any more of that Jay and Silent Bob nonsense and you can make it for less than eight million dollars, we totally do it.” And I was like, ‘I’m filled with nothing but Jay and Silent Bob crap!'”
In addition to the above Jay & Silent Bob reboot, Lionsgate also teamed up with Smith for the recently released Clerks III. Both films mark Smith’s return to the View Askewniverse, which began with the original Clerks and would sooner end with Jay and Silent Bob strike back.
“They were like ‘Well, like what?’ And I said, ‘I have this movie Clerks III they’re in it,” they say, “Okay, what else?” “I mentioned this movie Elk jaws,” and they were like, “What is Elk jaws?’ And I was like, ‘Elk jaws is like Jaws but with a moose instead of a shark.’ And they said, ‘What’s the budget for that?’ I was like, “About three million dollars,” they said, “We’ll make it four.” So it seems Elk jaws it’s finally going to happen.”
What came before and after
Elk jaws is meant to be the last episode of True North trilogy, so named because each episode is set primarily in Canada. It all started with Tuskwhich is about a podcaster named Wallace Bryton (Justin Long) who is turned into a human walrus by Howard Howe (Michael Parks). Yoga Hosers, the second installment from 2016, is about the two Canadian store clerks from the previous film, Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith), who battle an army of Bratzis. Bratwurst Nazis.
Interestingly enough, the True North trilogy could become tetralogy. In 2020, the elder Smith revealed during a Twitch stream that he had an idea for a sequel to Tusk. In it, Wallace breaks away from his walrus-altered body, only to become the film’s new villain. He would continue to torture people in exactly the same way he was tortured in the previous film.
