Tom Clancy adaptation series fails to knock Netflix’s “Glass Onion” off top spot
It’s a “knife” battle for the top spot in streaming this week. Netflix’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” starring Daniel Craig, and Amazon Prime Video’s long-awaited third season premiere of “Jack Ryan,” led by John Krasinski, kicked it out, but ultimately “Knives Out” Out” sequel won. Tom Clancy’s action-thriller series “Jack Ryan” continues a streak of sweeping Netflix’s streaming charts, capturing four of the top 10 slots and landing at No. 2, Netflix’s new movie ” Hot on the road to the Glass Onion”. The premiere paled in comparison to other recent Amazon Original premieres like “Rings of Power,” “Reacher,” and “Terminal List.” However, those who tuned in after the first episode continued to watch the second episode.

Holiday weekend with Craig, buoyed by “Glass Onion” with Edward Norton and Kate Hudson, “Enola Holmes 2” more than doubled viewership and “The Good Nurse” doubled — both also Debut year on this streamer. With families gathering around the biggest screen in the house just in time for the holiday season, “Glass Onion” redeemed millions of households who wanted to see the film they had missed in theaters a month earlier.
The new season of Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” starring Lily Collins, also topped the streaming list, taking the No. 3 spot in the third season premiere. The latest premiere beat the premiere of the show’s second season by about 10%. Affluent families with an income over $200k were 40% more likely to see it than the average family.
10 Most Watched Shows on Linear TV, December 21-27, 2022, US (Samba TV)
Households were in the mood for holiday-themed programming in the final weeks of the holiday season as Christmas movies and broadcast specials outpaced procedural shows on linear television. Mariah Carey’s CBS Christmas Eve special, “Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All!,” sat atop the linear charts, proving she’s still the undisputed queen of Christmas. ABC’s “Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade” and NBC’s “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” and “A Saturday Night Live Christmas Special” also made the list, while classic holiday movies including “A Christmas Story,” which aired on TNT aired, and“It’s a Wonderful Life” also reached the top spots on NBC. Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone,” which held the No. 1 spot for the past two weeks, is notably missing from the list this week, closing the holiday week with no new episodes on Christmas Day.
Turning to the weekly nightly news race, David Muir and team took the top spot for ABC, followed by “The NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt and Norah O’Donnell for cumulative weekly viewership. “CBS Evening News”.
Top 3 Evening News Programs, December 21-27, 2022, US (Samba TV)
While it failed to make the list this week, Paramount+’s release of Tom Cruise’s iconic “Top Gun: Maverick” was streamed by 2 million US households in its first week. The top designated market areas (DMAs) included Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Sacramento, with the former trailing the national average by three points. While other movie titles typically have very short theatrical windows before debuting on streaming, nearly seven months after its theatrical release, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is now available to stream, and is gaining momentum in the coming weeks.
