Fallon says Kevin McCarthy asked George Santos for ‘a new identity’ after losing so many votes

After losing the vote multiple times to become Speaker of the House this week, Kevin McCarthy Even then He has yet to garner the support he needs to be in office. At this point, Jimmy Fallon suspects that the Republican representative went to one of his colleagues for advice on how to be a freshman.

Like most late-night hosts, Fallon spent the bulk of his monologue stinging McCarthy for his struggle to become Speaker of the House. And although McCarthy has not indicated that he would drop out of the race to do so, Fallon thinks he may have turned to George Santos for some advice.

“Right now, Kevin McCarthy is so embarrassed, he went to George Santos and said ‘Help me build a new identity,'” Fallon joked.

The late night host was surely referring to the fact that Santos has been caught lying about almost every detail of his life and background up to this point. Among other claims, Santos said that his mother died in the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11, that his “grandparents fled Jewish persecution in Ukraine, settled in Belgium, and died in WWII.” that he had a degree in economics and finance from CUNY’s Baruch College, that he worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and that he owned 13 rental properties where tenants stayed for a year Hadn’t paid the rent – all of which were untrue.

Earlier this week, Fallon joked that Santos probably also lies about his new position as a congressman. So naturally he would be the best choice for McCarthy.

On Thursday, the late-night host mocked McCarthy’s sheer number of losses to this point, which at the time Fallon taped her show was only nine. (The current count as of this writing is 11 losses for Republicans).

“It’s brutal. I mean, there’s a reason you only get three strikes in baseball. I mean it’s hard to watch,” Fallon joked. “Nine! That’s too many. That’s somewhere between the COVID variant and the ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff.”
