Star Felix Mallard on Ginny and Marcus’ relationship

Felix Mallard contributes to the conversation about mental health in “Ginny & Georgia” through his character Marcus Baker’s depression, which takes center stage in his relationship with Ginny (Antonia Gentry) at the end of season 2.

Episode eight, which begins with a voiceover from Mallard describing Marcus’ inner thoughts/monologue, sees Marcus withdrawing from Ginny not because he no longer loves her, but because his state of depression has made love impossible. has taken away his energy to do and love.

“It was super, super important to me that we did it with integrity and authenticity. It’s really close to my heart because there’s not so much representation for boys — to show young men that it’s okay to go through those experiences that it’s okay not to do it alone, to need help,” Mallard told TheWrap. “Because I think every human being does, we can’t do it alone. And one of the greatest things about life is building a community and so, for me, that was really, really important. It’s also an honor to be able to portray this and show young men that tough times are okay.

The season 2 finale episode leaves the young couple on a note of more friendship than romance. At first Ginny doesn’t realize that Marcus has hit a depressive episode, but once her twin sister Max tells her, she makes it a point to show him that she wants to support him.

“We have other interesting things coming up for Ginny and Marcus because right now, dealing with her depression, and that story, from what I can tell – because Season 3 hasn’t been written yet – they will always be each other’s important people.” Lives,” showrunner Debra J. Fischer told TheWrap in a separate interview. “Always always. But you know how teenage love is, things wander, come and go, and we’re going to find out where their relationship goes over the next two seasons.”

Although Ginny dated Hunter Chen (Mason Temple) in the first season, Mallard roots for Ginny and Marcus as the endgame of that love triangle.

“I have to send her with Marcus. I have to be behind Marcus all the way. He loves her so much. I think that’s it for me and for the story. As soon as Marcus sees Ginny, he knows That’s about to come into his life,” he said. “He doesn’t know what the potential will be, it can change throughout the season. But yeah, the whole thing about him and Ginny is that they absolutely can’t avoid each other. And it’s such a joy to be able to portray that kind of love, to be able to reflect that kind of challenge honestly, because I think it’s that kind of love in people’s lives. As if there is someone you know you will be with for the rest of your life. So yeah, I’m behind that 100%.
