Both HIT – The first case and Shabaash Mithuss had a bad weekend at the box office as hardly any noteworthy collections were registered. The two films also failed to take off and didn’t show much growth over the weekend. As a result, the theater business thus far is a clear indication of how the two films will turn out to be a weeklong affair and ultimately it would be the reaction across the OTT circuits that would be closely watched as this is where their core market is too.

The Rajkummar Rao starrer still fared a little better as he managed to cross the Rs. 5 crores mark by the time the weekend was over. But even this was not something to cheer about as it was a struggle to reach the Rs. 2.23 crores mark on Sunday. Sad because this is a huge shift from the kind of collections that used to come for hard core movies, back to the days when the 2-3 crores opening day was a norm and collections managed to hit even Rs. 5-6 crores by the time Sunday was over. Here, after an entire weekend, the film is at Rs. $5.59 million.

On the other hand Shabaash Mithuss turned out to be a complete flop show after its opening weekend. The numbers remained very low all the time and even Sunday was extremely bad with Rs. 0.90 crores*. This just isn’t the kind of box office outcome expected from a film starring Taapsee Pannu. However, one wonders if the creators too had any idea what the theater business would look like, as there was no apparent aggression in the promotion and marketing activities for the film, which is now priced at Rs. $2.10 million*.

Ironically, both movies are lower than some of the other movies where a common factor comes into play. Rajkummar Rao’s Bath shark Do, which was released earlier this year, had a higher weekend of Rs. 7.82 crores while Janhit Mein Jaaric, which was another female-driven movie (Nushratt Bharucha), also had a better weekend at Rs. 2.69 crores!

* Estimates. Last numbers waited
