Rise of the Pink Ladies Teaser takes us back to Rydell High

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is set in 1954 and serves as a prequel to the famous musical.


Paramount+ just released an official trailer for Bold: Rise of the Pink Ladies. A prequel to the hit movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the series is coming to the streaming platform on April 6. To tease the upcoming release, the new trailer reveals plenty of new footage of the characters we’ll meet at Rydell High in 1954, leading up to the rise of rock ‘n’ roll that would change high school forever. “Our characters will experience from a different lens and how those experiences overlap with others with marginalized identities,” creator Annabel Oakes said of the show during the TCA panel, per deadline. “I think we have an opportunity to represent a different struggle that overlaps with things we’re dealing with today, like racism.”

Oakes serves as showrunner and executive produces the series starring Mary Bowen, Adam Fishbach, Alethea Jones, Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey. The series features new original music written and produced by Grammy nominee Justin Tranter, with Jamal Sims serving as the choreographer.

“We are thrilled to unveil our new original series that will introduce an incredible cast of young stars in the making and thrilling musical numbers you will fall in love with,” said Nicole Clemens on behalf of Paramount+ when announcing the series. “Annabel and Alethea have managed to brilliantly capture the spirit of the iconic, beloved classic film that, as rise of the pink ladies, takes place in the past but is relevant to the present.”

Details about the cast members were revealed earlier. Bold: Rise of the Pink Ladies stars Marisa Davila as Jane, Cheyenne Isabel Wells as Olivia, Ari Notartomaso as Cynthia, Tricia Fukuhara as Nancy, Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Jonathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy, Maxell-Whittington-Cooper as Wally, and Jackie Hoffman as Assistant Director McGee.

An official description of the series reads:

The series is set in 1954, four years before the events of Fatand follows four fed up and misfit students who team up to provoke the moral panic that will change Rydell High forever and become the founding fathers of the first high school clique known as the Pink Ladies.

Bold: Rise of the Pink Ladies will begin streaming on Paramount+ on April 6, 2023.
