Films eligible for the Best Picture Oscar again in the top 300 films after the fall of 2021

Slowly but surely, theatrical releases are picking up, as the Academy has named 301 eligible features for Best Picture at the 95th Academy Awards. This is an uptick from last year when 276 movies qualified, after 366 movies competed for the 2020 Academy Awards.

The 301 films are listed in alphabetical order on the Academy’s website, from “After Yang” and “Aftersun” to “The Woman King” and “Women Talking” and more.

To be considered for the 95th Academy Awards, films had to meet various Academy rules, open in a commercial movie theater in at least one of the six major metropolitan areas in the United States, including Los Angeles, New York, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami, and Atlanta, between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, completing a minimum seven consecutive day qualifying race at the same location. Feature films must have a duration of more than 40 minutes.

The Academy also clarified: “To be eligible for Best Picture consideration, films must have submitted a confidential Academy Standards of Inclusion and Representation entry as part of the submission requirements. Inclusion thresholds for eligibility in the Best Picture category will not be required to be met until the 96th Academy Awards.”

The nomination voting window opens Thursday and closes next Tuesday, January 17, with nominations announced Tuesday, January 24, 2023. The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 12. from 2023 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, with ABC broadcasting the ceremony live and in more than 200 territories around the world.
