Fallon is optimistic about George Santos, saying he won’t resign

With calls growing for Jorge Santos to resign after several lies he told about himself were exposed, the new Republican congressman says he won’t do it. But, Jimmy Fallon is pretty sure that, since Santos often says the opposite of what’s true, that means he really Will resign.

In the weeks after being elected to represent Northeast Queens and parts of Long Island’s North Shore in Congress, it has come to light that Santos, 34, lied about too many details about his life and work history. told.

Among other claims, Santos said that his mother died in the attacks on the World Trade Center on 9/11, that his “grandparents fled Jewish persecution in Ukraine, settled in Belgium, and died in WWII.” that he had a degree in economics and finance from CUNY’s Baruch College, that he worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, and that he owned 13 rental properties where tenants lived for a year Hadn’t paid rent for – all of which were untrue. As a result, Santos faced mounting calls from his own party to resign, even before he officially took office. However, speaking to reporters outside his office on Wednesday, Santos said he would not resign.

“But since it’s Santos, that means he will be, maybe,” Fallon joked. “Santos said he wasn’t one to give up, and he proved it at the ’92 Olympics where he won five gold medals.”

To be clear, this would be impossible, as Santos was only four years old at the time. This isn’t the first time Fallon has targeted Santos in recent weeks.

As Kevin McCarthy struggled to get the votes needed to become Speaker of the House, Fallon joked that he had gone to Santos to possibly ask for help in forging a new identity. Last week, the late-night host joked that Santos probably defends his frequent lies by lying even more about his new job.

“When asked to address his lie, Santos said ‘Listen, I’m just focused on being the best vice president I can be,'” Fallon joked.
