Not long ago, we saw a delighted Mani Ratnam as the filmmaker geared up for the release of his most ambitious film Ponniyin Selvan, a historical drama set against the backdrop of the Chola regime with an ensemble star cast. The first teaser of the first part of the film was released earlier this month and needless to say, fans are eagerly awaiting the magnum opus unfolding on the big screen. Amid this, recent reports claim Mani Ratnam was rushed to a hospital in Chennai after complaining of a fever.
Mani Ratnam hospitalized in Chennai; to be fired after testing negative for COVID 19
These reports suggest that Bombay filmmaker Mani Ratnam was taken to hospital after showing symptoms of a fever. With the fear of COVID that continues to plague everyone, the filmmaker was also tested for it. Fortunately, the results were negative, after which the director-producer is said to be fired today. According to the PTI report, a source was quoted as saying, “The director was taken to hospital today with fever symptoms and was undergoing a check-up. He had tested negative for COVID-19 and is likely to be discharged today.”
Speaking of Ponniyin Selvan, the historical drama will be released in two parts and will feature the ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaraman, Prakash Raj, Prabhu among others. The first episode PS1 is scheduled for release on September 30 worldwide in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu. The teaser of the film was recently revealed by multiple superstars including Amitabh Bachchan, Suriya, Mohanlal, Rakshit Shetty and Mahesh Babu. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam and he produces it under his banner Madras Talkies in association with Lyca Productions.
